The show was fabulous. The music and singing were great.

We will see it again if it returns. The realistic portrayal of Christ's situation was very moving.

    Great Performance

by sshoek on 2022-11-08Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Our family of four really enjoyed the performance. Our seats were good and we could see the whole stage. The only thing I had trouble with was I had trouble understanding Judas. He had a lovely singing voice but I felt he did not articulate very well and so I missed quite a bit of the words he was singing. Sometimes the music drowned out what he was singing as well. My one daughter also had trouble understanding him. Still I would recommend this performance to everyone.

    Jesus Christ Superstar

by Canadianbluegirl on 2022-11-08Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I was really disappointed in the seating arrangement I am handicapped and I could get any handicapped seating but when we arrived at the venue all 4 seats for the handicapped were taken by normal people I don’t think this is right do you? I have ticket for Fiddler on the Roof and have the same tickets I had for Jesus Christ Superstar it would be nice to see those seats that are designated handicapped used for handicapped people!!!

I’ve seen 4 live renditions of this show now, and this is by far the best I’ve seen. Excellent music acting and crew.

by LEO on 2022-11-08Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Music was so loud we could not hear the songs, suggest you leave drums at home next time. Type and quality of music distracted from the story. Would not recommend to others.

Jesus Christ Superstar was a Disappointment

by Bruce. on 2022-11-08Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

My wife and I were really looking forward to seeing the live production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary. The choreography and dancers were fantastic and some of the singing (particularly Mary Magdelene) were terrific. However, orchestra for many songs was so overpowering that it was impossible to hear the singers' voices and understand the lyrics. This is a great stage production but would be vastly improved by lowering the volume of the orchestra so that the audience could hear the singers.

    Absolutely Fantastic

by DDM on 2022-11-07Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

We had terrific seats - 3 rows back right in the middle. We were almost late arriving due to underestimating the volume of traffic trying to park. When it started, I was a bit concerned as the opening guitar solo was a bit ragged. However, that first impression changed quickly. Judas came on with his opening solo which was powerful and perfect. When Jesus started to sing, again I was a bit concerned as Judas seemed to overpower him - almost stealing the show. However, Jesus certainly proved me wrong when he did his powerful solo. The casting of Caiaphas, the Pharisees, Pontius Pilate and King Herod were terrific - all gave great and powerful performances. The performance was augmented by great choreography and the lead dancer was amazing. She probably can't move after her very powerful performance. All in all, it was a perfect performance by all with amazing staging. It was a great pleasure to be there - particularly in seats so close to the action. This is the third time I have seen Jesus Christ Superstar performed on stage and it was by far the best. The performance was more than comparable to the 2018 NBC performance done on television under the leadership of John Legend.

    Disappointed

Performance was excellent. But the adaptation was really hard to follow. And I know the story of Jesus. Was not impressed

    Disappointed

by Disappointed on 2022-11-07Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

While the music was good, there was no story, there was no 'play' on the stage. It was basically the cast just singing and dancing the album, nothing more. And I'm sorry, having Jesus with a man-bun and a guitar, and wearing sneakers, did the original musical and story a huge disservice. I am all for making changes as plays progress over time, but this adaptation was a miss in my opinion. The original musical was so amazing with a powerful story. This missed the mark completely. No story took place! Some things in life should simply not be 'modernized'.

    Disappointed

by NS on 2022-11-07Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Not enough narrative a lot of yelling and things going on without connection to the actors. Too short no intermission just didn’t seem worth the money.

    Great Performance

by Stormin Norman on 2022-11-06Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Overall a great performannce. The only challenge was trying to hear the words over the music. For example, when Jesus is on the cross, the music was so load, we could not hear what he was saying.

    Very disappointed

by Theatre Lover on 2022-11-06Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Was looking forward to finally getting to see JCS live, but very let down. The music was good but too loud could not hear the lyrics, not sure why Jesus kept picking up and putting down guitar only playing it once. I found the hand microphones and stands distracting. There was a definite lack of acting making the whole production more like a concert than theatre. I hope someday I get a chance to see a production that does justice to the Rice and Webber's work.

    Excellent!

by Marg on 2022-11-05Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I have been a fan of JCS ever since the movie with Ted Neeley and Yvonne Ellison came out. Whenever I need a hit of nostalgia comes on, I crank up the soundtrack and sing along. When JCS came to town, I absolutely had to go and what a treat! The set was superb and fit the various moods perfectly and the cast singing blew me away. Truly a magical evening out.

    Trip Down Memory Lane

by D&D on 2022-11-05Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Rating really 4.5/5. Performance was captivating with great vocals, energetic dancing, and creative lighting (did not shine lights in our eyes - yeah!). Wanted to sing along as was familiar with the music but restrained ourselves. Brought us back to 70's.
