  • Great Show! Terrible Venue!

by Dan in Vancouver on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Do yourself a favour and never go to a show at UBC. Ever. The Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre is a nice enough venue as far as ice rinks go, but getting in and out is difficult. Basically there are is only one way in and out of the rink causing huge line ups. Outside Traffic is horrendous. There is a parkade across the street which seems like a good idea until after the show when everybody leaves at the same time. We sat in the car on the 4th floor not moving anywhere for 30 minutes.

  • crap venue

by Steve on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

Poor parking,,poor guidance of public, lack of attendants to answer questions outside as to where to go. Lack of exits and entrances to hurry the crowd,,TV monitors were dated and pixilated. They had one road closed upon leaving,,will never attend this venue again.

  • Venue and Parking Chaos

by Kazza on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

The venue to hold this was inappropriate given it was not close to public transit (skytrain) and the roads accessing it were severely clogged with traffic. As a result we missed the warm up act. Jim's performance was fine but the staff at the Sports Centre looked like they had never staged an event before. There were lots of staff around but none of them really provided much practical help to attendees. They could have helped funnel people in, direct them to parking spots, tell them that other bars were less busy etc....instead they just stood there making it difficult to know where to go. Next time I suggest picking a downtown venue with skytrain access.

  • Non-Stop Laughter

by iSmile67 on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I absolutely loved the show. Jim Gaffigan is so freaking funny and incredibly relatable. When I think of his impression of God even days later, it makes me laugh out loud. I highly recommend this show, dark and funny.

  • Comedy great, venue not so much

by TazMan on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Jim and his opening act were great! My primary complaint is with the venue, as the permanent seating is on the narrow side. Ended up rubbing shoulders all night with the stranger next to me.

  • Great Jim, Bad Staff

by Jejetto_Van on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

The show was great. But the organization of the event (by UBC I think) was pretty badly done. The staff bothered the public during the show, standing in between the stage and the guests, sometimes even talking loud and covering Jim Gaffigan's vocie... Never seen such a thing before.

  • GREAT show but ...

by crowsfeet11 on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Loved Jim, excellent show. I thought the actual venue (UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre) was really good too, felt like the right size for such an event. BUT ... getting in and out of UBC and the parking was a complete nightmare and I don't think I would go to an event up there again with my vehicle. I would look at alternatives.

  • Amazing show, poor sound

by Candise on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Jim was amazing. Hilarious start to finish. The opener was awesome too, incredibly funny. The venue, Thunderbird Stadium at UBC was subpar. Only 2 screens that seemed too distant to see and possibly the screen wasn't very sharp too. The sound echoed as the Comedians spoke. I imagine annoying for everyone, including Jim.

  • Good

by Dale on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Jim was very funny as always, but the whole experience felt very rushed. Jim's act was hilarious but it felt like it was only a 30 min set. For the price of the ticket I would have like to see another opener or something

  • Disappointed

    by d. c. on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Jim started off strong but wained down quickly Short show only 40 minutes

  • Great show

Great performance! Seen him a couple times now. He always delivers the laughs!

  • Horrible venue

by Dean on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

Getting in and out (parking and into the facility) was horrific. Took 45 min. 1 hour out. small venue inside, washrooms limited. massive lineups for food and beverage we could barely see the Jim on the pop up screens that were set up. The audio was poor.

  • Good comedians but claustrophobic venue

by Kendal on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Venue was too small with uncomfortable close seating …possibly stage could be more in the middle of floor or down a bit with side seats so we could see the performers. Also….inform patrons that more washrooms and concessions are throughout the building to avoid the incredibly long waits !!!! Frustrating Parking was close but hard to leave from volume.

  • What a show!

by stewitup on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I treated my wife to front row centre stage at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver. What a show!

  • It’s good

by Nags on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

It was hilarious for the first half. And went a little down in the middle and towards the end. Over all it’s good. 4 out of 5.

  • Laughed so hard

by DIYMOM on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Jim is hilarious! Poop. Capitalism. Parenting. Darkness. The show had it all! He’s funnier is person than his specials. So glad he stopped in Vancouver… Feedback for UBC Thunderbird - it needs better door line management and definitely parking lot attendant (it took 30-45 minutes to exit the parking structure at the Health Sciences lot after the event)

  • enjoyed but extremely short

by dlm on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Comic was on stage for 60 minutes. Much too short given the cost of the tickets. I purchased floor seats , row 21 hoping to be able to watch him on stage. Sadly too far away and ended up watching screens instead. Sadly, I don't think it was work the money.

  • Great Show, but Short

by Lyndon on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Show was good. Traffic to Venue was not great, so missed 1/2 of the opener. The main act was short. Overall short event. 100 minutes including an opener.

  • Terrible venue

    by C. p. on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

Terrible sound, uncomfortable seats and too far to travel for most people in the lower mainland
