Joe Henry's music career began when he moved to New York and released his 1986 debut album Talk of Heaven. He embraced an alt-country sensibility for the albums Short Man's Room (1992) and Kindness of the World (1993), which earned critical praise and made him an artist to watch. Henry later developed a passion for jazz and tapped pioneering free jazz saxophonist Ornette Coleman to play on his critically acclaimed 2001 album Scar. He's also garnered praise for his production work with other artists, including Grammy-winning efforts by Solomon Burke, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. While he's helped more than a dozen artists develop their sound, Henry has also continued his growth as a performer on lauded albums like Reverie (2011) and Invisible Hour (2014).
