See him everytime we can! Never disappoints. Great voice and a great, warm entertainer.
As I feared, the show was over-loaded with Xmas carols. He does them well of course, but ... Of the 12 or so songs he did, fewer than half met my expectations. However, his rendition of "Oh Holy Night" was superb. The four musician "Friends" who performed with him were excellent.
This was a fabulous John McDermott show! I have attended neraly all of them for the last 15 years in both Edmonton and Calgary, and LOVED the performance on Saturday night. The venue was very impressive, big theatre feel but intimate at the same time. John's voice never disappoints, and the musicians were first class...exceptional. I really enjoyed the set list, as it combined a wonderful blend of the old and the new, which really appealed to me. Tender, touching, weepy moments for the audience were there, as were the laughs and giggles throughout. As an entertainer and performer, John is very in touch with his audience, and sprinkles just the right amount of humour and seriousness to make it a moving and entertaining night out. First rate show!!!
I had an amazing time. John McDermott was really entertaining.
wonderful concert !The music and story telling very touching-however we found the venue (Studio Theater Hamilton Place) a little tight ,on chairs that were uncomfortable. normally we love that venue when it has been cafe style with tables at other concerts.
He has an amazing voice and great stage presence but the performance could have been better with the addition of background singers to provide a little variety to the show.
This performance of John McDermott was the best one I have every seen. He was in top form and some of the songs sent chills up my spine, especially his "unaccompanied" version of Danny Boy. Definitely see if you get the opportunity.
John is an amazing preformer... we have seen him grow into his role over the years as a confident, interesting stage presence. And of course his music is haunting, filled with meloncholy, both uplifting and a little sad. Whatever he sings, his wonderful voice is incredible. His songs included many that are on his new CD -Journey. A bit of a departure from his more well known works, but enjoyable all the same. I enjoyed very much the venu more than the last concert of his in the Theatre. I prefer the intimacy of the setting.
I have always enjoyed John McDermotts voice and the comradiere he has with the musicians.I especially like the Christmas special that had more hymns and theme music a couple of years back. The change to the Studio was unexpected, however, I still would not have missed my annual McDermott experience and enjoyment. I actually enjoyed the studio for the performance and would come again.
The show was very good. The room was just the right size site lines were good sound was great.
