Headliner Ken Jeong was good but I was expecting more jokes from him
I initially bought these tickets as a gift for my husband - he likes comedy, I like Hollywood (and Dax Shepard) and this merge was too perfect to pass up! It started out rough for us as getting to the show (downtown on a Saturday night in the midst of Nuit Blache) was a major hassle. When the tickets were first purchased, the show was suppose to take place at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre (which to us meant taking the train directly to the CNE, eliminating the drive, traffic, parking, etc) and though we left nearly 2 hours to get there, the move to the Winter Garden Theatre had us arrive mere moments before the show started and therefore not seated as close as we had hoped. But thankfully all views are good from this 'interesting' theatre and the show was fun from start to finish...even the live music at the beginning. Sadly I wasn't familiar with his guest (sorry, Lil Rel) but the stories shared were funny and entertaining and I would definitely go see Dax again!
Headliner Reggie Watts was hilarious and so amazing!
What a great deal - signed up for Headliner + 5 credits; ended up seeing 11 shows!! Reggie Watts was amazing, but the other 10 comedians were great too! Going back next year, for sure!
JFL42 is one of my favourite weeks of the year, tons of great comedians, great small venues, would highly recommend!
I had an amazing week at JFL42! I purchased the 2 credit pass and was satisfied with the reservation process and the range of shows/comedians to see! I saw a total of 12 shows and had a blast!
Act had me in stitches throughout. Great pacing, funny jokes with minimal swearing. Great story telling ability had us captivated.
Loved seeing Margaret Cho again at JFL42. Usually a decent selection of acts here. Nice that you were able to re-use your pass. Really disappointing to have one of my most anticipated acts cancel weeks prior and then have one of the replacement acts I chose cancel as well just two days prior.
The show was amazing, super funny. I left with a stomach ache of laughing so hard. I would definitely go again!
Very clever bits and tremendous delivery. Haven't laughed that hard in ages!
I would definitely recommend this festival. They offered a huge variety of comedic styles in great venues throughout the city. I particularly loved the In Conversation events. The value for passes is fantastic too. I'll be buying a pass next year for sure!
Great variety of comedians and venues to choose from. LOVE the credit back system.
Opening comedian was funnier. Ken needs to stop living off hangover.
Great night out.....the comedians were all great! Better than I expected!
Ken Jeong was barely on for an hour and honestly felt like he was just stalling the whole time. He spoke about the hangover the majority of the time and I only chuckled maybe 4/5 times the whole show. Felt unprepared and lazy.
The only thing I would really say WASN'T amazing about the show was his opening DJ..... Yes, that's right, he opened the show with a DJ that played some very heavy hip/hop style music that didn't seem to appeal to some of the crowd. However, the music wasn't a big deal to me, I enjoy pretty much everything.... BUT, what was really odd was the extremely GORY videos that accompanied this music for over 10 minutes. Multiple images of bloody fight scenes from old Kung Fu movies, broken bones popping out of skin, skulls being crushed, etc.... I could see many people in my immediate area turning away from the screen multiple times. I don't see any relevance to the show, or need for this particular type of "opening act"? Hannibal was hilarious, he always is. His use of projected images on a screen to help tell some of his stories was unique and worked very well for what he was doing. I would absolutely see the show again, just maybe reconsider how the show is opened. P.S. The heavy music definitely showcased the sound system in the Sony Centre.... it is AMAZING.... you could FEEL the bass in your ribs and it felt like the system was not even working yet. I can only imagine what it COULD be like if they turned it up. :-D
We had a great time, good seats and an awesome venue. Beer was expensive but we were lit when we arrived!!!
Ken Jeong was very funny and would recommend seeing him. We had great seats at a reasonable price. Loved the venue as well.
Bridget Everett is a force to be reckoned with, and an absolute delight. My only complaint is that the show wasn’t long enough.
