Great show, but didn't feel authentic
by Hammer1080 on 2015-05-05Métropolis - MontrealI love Kamelot and I know they have always aimed to put on a glossy, flashy stage show, which they most certainly did in Montreal. It's a very slick show and they played all hits. My feeling though is that they are sacrificing some musical integrity in favour of 'party tricks' like Tommy reaching over the guitarist or bassists shoulder and 'playing' the instrument. Thomas also spends a lot of time with only one hand on the guitar but it never seems like the guitar misses a note. Bass player jumping around like he wants to be in KoRn. Maybe Makes me think they rely heavily on instrumental tracks to facilitate this sort of thing instead of truly playing. This is the trend of pop music, and sure it makes for a great flashy entertaining show but it doesn't feel authentic - hence my review title. Either way, the new album songs sound great, Casey is amazing on the drums as usual, and Tommy sounds great, even if heavily supported by a track.
