About

Kevin Patrick Smith is an American filmmaker, actor, comedian, comic book writer, author, YouTuber, and podcaster. He came to prominence with the low-budget comedy buddy film Clerks (1994), which he wrote, directed, co-produced, and acted in as the character Silent Bob of stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob. Clerks won the "Award of the Youth" and the "Mercedes-Benz Award" at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, the "Filmmakers Trophy" at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for three Independent Spirit Awards (Best First Feature, Best First Screenplay and Jeff Anderson for Best Debut Performance).

The film Jay and Silent Bob also appeared in Smith's later films MallratsChasing AmyDogmaJay and Silent Bob Strike BackClerks II and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which are set primarily in his home state of New Jersey. While not strictly sequential, the films have crossover plot elements, character references, and a shared canon known as the "View Askewniverse", named after Smith's production company View Askew Productions, which he co-founded with Scott Mosier.

Since 2011, Smith has mostly made horror films, including Red State (2011) and the "comedy horror films" Tusk (2014) and Yoga Hosers (2016), two in a planned series of three such films set in Canada dubbed the True North trilogy.

Last year, Smith executive produced Masters of the Universe: Revelation for Netflix and coming later this year, Smith will release the much anticipated Clerks III via Lionsgate.

Smith owns Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash in Red Bank, New Jersey, a comic bookstore which became the setting for the reality television show Comic Book Men (2012-2018). As a podcaster, Smith co-hosts several shows on his SModcast Podcast Network, including SModcast, Fatman Beyond, and the live show Hollywood Babble-On. He is known for /participating in long, humorous Q&A sessions that are often filmed for DVD release, beginning with An Evening with Kevin Smith.

  • Great show as always, but a few disappointments

    by smd9 on 2017-08-28Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Kevin is always a great entertainer and story teller. His "Evening with Kevin Smith" shows are known for the Q&A type interactions, so it was disappointing that this was just a story telling session with no interaction with the audience. I had heard half the stories before so while it was still entertaining, I felt disappointed not to get the chance to ask a question and to hear so much repeated content. I didn't feel like I got the full value/experience I was expecting. 3.5/5 for me.

  • Material Boy Living in a Material World

by Handsomeboy on 2017-08-28Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The hockey shirted super hero of thought sauntered out to the centre of the stage to great applause. He opened his mouth to suggest that he was tired from working on SuperGirl late into the night in Vancouver and that we were allowed to interrupt anytime we wanted. He launched into it after prepping us with an important story of his love for Canada's A&W. He did not stop for 2 hours!! He kept me extremely interested by peppering the stories with life lessons and filmmaker lessons. Having said that, it was non-stop fun and laughter. This show was not only funny and informative it was inspirational on the level of the Madonna - Material Girl tour.

  • Another fun night with Kevin Smith

This event was during the first evening of the Ex so I was pleased that my ticket granted me free entry to the Ex - that was a nice bonus. Kevin's always been a great story-teller and this night was no exception. He talked about his recent filming of the two TV series, Super Girl and The Flash. I don't watch either show but that didn't matter in the slightest, I still really found him entertaining and funny (as always). I'm sure I'll be seeing him again in the future.

This show was amazing I think that if the venue did not have time restraints it would have made the show even better.

  • Unbelievable Movie

This Was a unbelievably good movie. to say it was unpredictable in an understatement. the Q&A after was great over all well worth the price of the ticket and the six hour drive.

  • You won't regret it!

Watching Kevin Smith talk for hours on end will always be worth the $80 you'll pay to see him. But what other stand up comedians will tellyou a story about J-Lo taking a dump at your place, wiping with your handtowel(due to lack of toiletpaper), then stealing it! Funny!

  • the truth about hollywood!

by grillcheeserulz on 2010-03-11massey hall - torontoRating: 5 out of 5

although i follow him on twitter, listen to smodcasts, watch his movies and play against him in the walter gretzky ball hockey tourney each year, he never ceases to amaze me. ksmith openly talks about his life, his work and hollywood for 3 or 4...or more hours. aside from stints on the actors studio, name one other star who does this? not only do i appreciate his openness, i also appreciate the fact that he's approachable and answers ANY question about his life that's asked. and when i say "any", i really do mean ANY! if you doubt me, just ask him about his fissure!
