KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD IN CONCERT:

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard sounds like a transmission from garage rock’s past heard over the crackling transistors of a handheld radio. The lo-fi septet is certainly an unusual assembly -- three guitarists, two drummers, a bassist, and a harmonica player -- but they wouldn’t have it any other way. They wrap ticket buyers in an intoxicating haze with the can’t-help-but-sing-along hooks and fuzz-laden guitar riffs that abound on both straightforward singles like “Cellophane” and spacey epics like “Head On/Pill”. Fans looking for classic garage rock and psychedelia sounds played with youthful enthusiasm will eat up the bizarre sonic gumbo that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard serve up whenever they go on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Melbourne, Australia garage rock septet King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard began in 2010 as the side project of an adventurous group of musicians. But Stu Mackenzie (vocals/guitar), Joe Walker (guitar), Cook Craig (guitar), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica/ vocals), Eric Moore (drums/theremin), Michael Cavanagh (drums), and Lucas Skinner (bass) soon found that they preferred the fruitful experimentation that resulted from that one-off jam to their regular gigs. The group debuted on wax with 12 Bar Bruise in 2012, followed by Eyes Like the Sky a scant five months later. The group has maintained this breakneck pace, though they always add fresh twists to their signature style. For example, their critically acclaimed 2015 album Quarters featured four psychedelic jams that were all exactly 10:10 long. Their fearless creativity has made them a popular live act, and their garage rock sing-alongs and psychedelic rave-ups have thrilled audiences around the world.

Great Show and venue. Music was amazing and really enjoyed the show. Perhaps, I'll bring earplugs next time as it got very loud at times haha.

    It was a religious experience

by Danny Boy on 2022-10-22L'Olympia - Montreal

What an amazing show. The venue was too small to contain the stoke that King Gizzard creates in a crowd. Ticket presentation and navigation was incredibly easy, thank you Ticketmaster!

King Giz show at Rebel Toronto 2019

by JT Ramone on 2019-08-28REBEL - Toronto

Great show at Rebel Club on August 25, 2019! Wonderful display of talented bands found “down under”. Opening act #1 was ORB who were as good as the Rebel sound system would let them. I’d like to see them do a longer set to get a better idea of how they compare to their excellent studio sound. #2 opening band was Stonefield, a super power-rock band consisting of four sisters who really got the crowd head-banging and warmed up for King Gizzard. The headliners finally made their way on stage and proceeded to send the crowd into a moshing frenzy with music from their latest album Infest the Rats Nest. An eclectic set list, that made its way through their huge back catalogue of albums, was able to change up the pace now and then to give people a chance to catch their collective breaths. Epic drum solos from Eric and Michael were definitely one of the highlights of the night. The only thing missing was a solo from Ambrose, but with so many songs to choose from you can’t have everything. I found the background video show a bit distracting as I was up in the Mezzaine area, but all-in-all a great concert by a great band! Come back to Canada soon!!
