Let me start by giving the Singer a 5 star rating. He was very talented.
Now to the real problems here. I drove 7 hours each way with my wife and son (23 years old) to see this concert. My son, who can be forgetful at times, left his identification in the other car and remembered once we arrived in Edmonton. After checking in with the hotel, we went to the River Cree Resort & Casino to see the concert. Upon arriving at the door we showed our tickets and my son was asked for ID, which he did not have but had full copies on a laptop that we had with us. He doesn't look less than 18, which is the age needed to attend. Since he could not produce a physical ID we offered to produce any number of IDs we keep on the computer, which work for any airport security in the world. The Cree SS Guards would not accept his ID in this form but only in physical card form. This was simply not acceptable and my 23 year old Son had to sit in the car, in the rain, for the entire concert until completion. This security SS protocol is simple NOT acceptable and needs to be modified.
Now, for the Led Zepplica band. I had seen a great band in Calgary a few years back at the Saddledome. They were simply amazing and the songs they played were like listening to the actual album. The mixing crew had it right and everyone in the band could play with real articulation. Unfortunately, I must have mixed up the bands, as this one decided it was a good idea to change the charts to make them their own. Personally, I believe a tribute band should give back what people have listened to on albums and CDs for years. This is what is ingrained in their minds and hearts.
In all fairness to the band, the venue and acoustics were really bad. The so called concert hall was a large metal half round hut (like airport hanger) and the stage was set back into the end which destroys the sound. I can't imagine any performer ever sounding good in this setting. However, when you play Moby Dick the drummer has to be right on and not stop 3 times to take applause and then restart. This song has several cues for the band to break or start in, which didn't happen until much later in the song. Also, because of the very bad acoustics the Jimmy Page guitarist lost any definition in his playing. It all sounded so dull and without articulation.
I love the Led Zeppelin band and music and will continue to play these great songs from the past. Please bring back the guys from the Saddledome about 3-4 years ago. They were amazing!
