  • Celebrating Black Canadian History

by Ms Enjay on 2025-02-11The Elgin & Winter Garden Theatres - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Connecting the heroic life of a Black Canadian war veteran, the Underground Railroad, and a founding Black Church, this musical celebrates the history of those that sought a better life in Canada and the struggle to build a community in a nation that struggled with its own racial issues.

  • A good, educational performance

by History as music on 2025-02-11The Elgin & Winter Garden Theatres - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

This is an enthusiastic production that aims to bring to light an important piece of overlooked Ontario history. The set and choreography are simple, but the dialogue and lyrics tell of the black struggle to build community and make a life in Ontario after the British/American war. All four of us came away with a wish to dig further in the story, acknowledging the line, "They never taught us about this in school."

  • Lost Heroes of Oro 👏👏👏

First I love the Elgin winter garden threatre. The play was awesome, well written and performed. It certainly captured the essence of Canadian history; showcasing how slavery was still embedded in Canada. These real stories need to be told to educate and insight meaningful conversations about the history of Black people in Canada. The play was very entertaining, emotional and riveting. Well choreographed Great play.

This was an incredibly powerful performance. The portrayal of these historical people was amazing, and the story and music was riveting. Unfortunate that it's not going to be performed in more places.

I had the opportunity to watch Lost Hero's of Oro last year and thought is was very well done. It's based on a true story, great music accompaniment and great actors. I highly recommend this show for all, but especially the Black community. Make the time to support this talented female Director and Playwriter.
