About

Born in Sweden, Lykke Li’s cool brand of electronic dream pop is decidedly Scandinavian, and bears a faint resemblance to that other Nordic music goddess Björk. In Lykke Li's music the synthesizers are like shimmering fjords, and the violins and cellos like ice-capped mountain peaks. However, it’s Lykke Li’s voice -- a soprano -- that has the range of a cinematic Nordic vista and his force of her music. Lykke Li dropped her debut album, Youth Novels, in 2008. In 2009, the singer-songwriter won the Meteor Music Award for Best International Artist. Lykke Li released her sophomore album, Wounded Rhymes, in 2011; featuring an innovative mix of tribal beats, skittering keyboards and sultry yet haunting, pop noir-style vocals, the album landed on many music critics' lists for best albums of 2011, including the New York Times and Rolling Stone.

Lykke Li is as famous for her eclectic concerts as she is her unusual soundscapes. Equipped with nothing but a drum kit, guitar, bass, and a necklace made of percussive instruments, Lykke Li’s simple stage set-up – as minimal as a Swedish landscape in winter -- has been electrifying ticket buyers since her meteoric rise to fame in 2009. She has a massive global fan base that follows her tours all over the world. She has played big-name outdoor concert festivals like Glastonbury, Lollapaloooza, and Coachella, and has appeared on Last Call with Carson Daily and the Late Show with David Letterman. The song “Get Some” has been featured on TV programs like Hawaii Five-O and Pretty Little Liars, and "I Follow Rivers" was highlighted on Glee. The Magician Remix of “I Follow Rivers,” however, is a runaway club hit in Europe, peaking at No. 1 in Romania and No. 2 in Ireland.

    Lykke does NOT disappoint!

by TravelingSomm on 2018-10-14The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

The openers for Lykke were quite charming and fun and alluded a little to the new influence in this album So Sad So Sexy. Show was well-timed, great sound. Gorgeous vocals, cool beats and some honest interaction with the crowd.

OK w. distorted sound; excessive drums and lights

by PeterR on 2018-10-14The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Lykke Li's material is fine and her voice is pretty great but in this concert it came across distorted so you could rarely make out the lyrics. No nuance at all. The drums over-powered. The band followed the annoying practice of having the lighting scheme be primarily "bright ;lights to blind the audience" which for me was saying a lot because it reached me up in the balcony -- I blame the band for that . But for the sound, Danforth Music Hall needs to invest in making the acoustics better.

    Really enjoyed the opening act

by lykkelifannn on 2011-12-07Sound Academy - Toronto

I have to say that I was pretty disappointed with the show. The venue was not the greatest for the amount of people that were there. The opening act was FIrst Aid Kit and they were absolutely amazing. Definitely found a new band to love. Lykke Li's set was pretty odd. Not that I assumed she was anything close to normal. The thing that shocked me was that she played most of her hits right at the beginning. This made it really easy to bail early as the place was way too hot to stand any longer. Hopefully next time she will be in a bigger venue.

    Lykke Li is awesome

by lykkelifan on 2011-11-21Sound Academy - Toronto

The music was amazing and the setting was not bad. General admission tickets are good because you can choose where to stand and if you get there early you can stand in the front. The only thing is that sometimes very tall people tend to be in the front and obstruct the view. Everything else was great. Once again, the music was fabulous and Lykke Li is just amazing. Great experience overall.

Horrible venue for a concert. She, however, is an amazing live.

Lykke li is one of the most talented people around. Her voice is beautiful and her music is unforgettable. She obviously loves music and performing as she really loses herself in it.

    Highly Anticipated Meh

by Mmmo on 2011-11-17Sound Academy - Toronto

I was so excited to see both these acts, especially FAK. After the usual long wait both acts seems kinda tired and run down. Who ever was in charge of sound that night failed at his job. I should also mention the parking out front was $20, and if you parked at the near by Asian Supermarket you had your windows smashed in and your purse stollen (yep, that happened to a few people that night). I'd driven a long way to see these acts and all in all it was a let down and the night ended up costing a helluva lot more than it was worth. Two thumbs that smell like bum down.
