Lyle was in fine form...as always

by cowster on 2009-11-15National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Last nights performance at the NAC was just great! Lyle and his Large Band were in fine form.... as always. A consummate assemblage of extraordinary musicians coupled with Lyle's unique sense of humour, his muscianship and song list, made for a thoroughly enjoyable two and half hour performance. Something we don't experience all that often with most other muscians who visit the Ottawa area. We'd be pleased to invite Lyle back again and again. Great show Lyle!!

by looooooo on 2009-11-15National Arts Centre - Ottawa

an amazing show! lyle uses his band so perfectly: not too much, and yet so generously to their large talents. a great night! thanks boys. so great to see a group of ALL middle aged men really hitting and enjoying their musical prime. it was a joy to see. also a generously long 2 1/2 hour show, with no opener and no intermission.

    Lyle Lovett very polished

by SplitT on 2009-11-15National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Lyle and his large band were very entertaining. When they took the stage all dressed in dark suits and ties I knew I was in for a classy show. Their performance was polished and professional and we were treated to an array of music including Blue Grass, rock, Texas swing, country ballads and easy listening. I was very taken by Lyle's dry sense of humour and rapport with the audience. The badn members are accomplished musicians in their own right. It was a treat to see Russ Kunkel on drums, a name that I had seen creditted on many of the albums in my collection. I will definitely go to see this terrific talent again.

    Lovett classy, entertaining, great show!

by TandR on 2009-11-15National Arts Centre - Ottawa

We would love to see more entertainers take Lyle Lovett's approach to performing. He is a class act and a talented musician with a wide variety of music styles backed up by tremendous singers and outstanding fellow musicians. No gimmicks, just pure entertainment.

    Love it , Lyle!

by gwepem on 2009-11-14Massey Hall - Toronto

Mr. Lovett was in fine voice and usual wry humour last night - the whole concert was beyond our expectations. He was on stage for 2 hours and 40 minutes non-stop with a stupendous mix of new and old work. All his band were A+ musicians on their own so putting them altogether made for night that was one of the best concerts we've been to this year. We hope he comes back every year. Also, I would like to add that he had the great courtesy of staring right on time!

Come for the music, stay for the stories!

by penamn on 2009-11-14Massey Hall - Toronto

Can't say I was a follower of Lyle's career befoer this concert but boy, did he make a fan out of me. The band was tight, as only an all star lineup of session men can be. The music easy and often moving. But Lyle's banter and stories were the highlight and made sure you had a smile on your face when you left the hall.

    by newfan8 on 2009-11-14Massey Hall - Toronto

If your looking for something different, try listening to LL. Great writing, diverse musical styling....he makes the most of his (and his bands) great talent. Definitely worth the ticket price.

He is so unique and each and every member of the Large Band are so professional in their own right, that it's just an unforgettable experience I would definitely repeat.

    A Beautiful Man

    by NoNo48 on 2009-11-14Massey Hall - Toronto

Lyle Lovett is one of the most generous, talented and humourous musicians on this planet. I fully recommend any show anywhere....but I must admit that I am more than damn lucky to be able to see him in Toronto at Massey Hall. There are no bad seats and the sound is extraordinary. The Large Band was filled with incredible talent....I am still trying to find their solo work......voices and players that transport you to heaven and back....I just wish there had been room to dance! Two and one half uninterrupted hours of bliss...............I just hope they return soon.

    Lyle Lovett was fantastic

by kareneg on 2009-11-14Massey Hall - Toronto

Lyle Lovett is on top of his game, and gives a fantastic show with lots of interaction with the audience. His "large band" was phenomenal - tight and balanced. Lyle is perfect in such an intimate setting and makes the audience feel involved with his wit and humility. I have not previously been a follower of Lyle, but I will be a fan from now on.

    Lovett was definitely unforgettable

by jovanka on 2009-11-14Massey Hall - Toronto

I was not familiar wiith Lyle Lovett prior to the concert. My only experience is my husbands love for music and Lyle's If I had a Boat. So going to the concert for me was just for the fun of it. I found his talent extraordinary. His manner on stage was both engaging and warm. His band was brilliant and also very engaging. The music was incredibly versatile. I wanted to get up and move lots throughout the concert. I was completely engaged for the whole concert (which is very unusual for me ADD). The only disappointment for me was the quiet concert goers of Toronto. The first half of the concert I wanted to jump up and say to them "get up, get excited etc." While I know all the people there were fans Lyle, believe me, I must apologize for their utter politeness and lovely manners. We usually are alot more fun. Thank you for the lovely night out. It is always lovely to get what you pay for and some. Good luck!

    Lyle was good

    by Dsandds123 on 2009-11-14Massey Hall - Toronto

Lyle Lovett and his band were great! However, Massey Hall seats are horrible. They are narrow and hard and seeing a concert from the balcony just isn't worth the money.

    Lyle is Great

by sorbygirl on 2009-07-24State Theatre - Minneapolis

As always, Lyle and his Large Band are large. I would have liked a little more of Lyle solo, but the whole package was very good.
