  • Mamma Mia

The performance was excellent from start to finish! The actors were amazing, their voices perfect. They had me dancing in my seat!

  • Hmmmm....little disappointing...

by Jen9er on 2014-04-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

We went to Mama Mia a few years ago when it was last here and this was an entirely different experience. For a Broadway show, the caliber of the overall singing and performance was lacking. Especially in the first act, singers were having trouble hitting there notes and the result was decidedly pitchy. The actor playing Sky was atrocious and shouldn't even get a role in a High School show, let alone a Broadway number! The second act seemed to improve but I am left wanting. For a show garnering the high ticket prices like this, it leaves me feeling a little ripped off, wondering if Broadway Across Canada is losing it's edge a bit?

I would most definitely recommend this show. It was a fantastic night, the acting was top notch. The singing was amazing and so close to the originals. The costumes were fantastic. I have nothing bad to say about Mamma Mia! at all. It was the best theatre production I have seen ever, and we have seen a lot. It is a really good feel good show. Loved it so much, I didn't want it to end. They had the audience singing, dancing and clapping along. Lots of laughter. Awesome!!!

  • money well spent

A very solid show although the Gabrielle's acting was good her voice wasn't a strong as it could/should have been. The rest of the cast was very good and the slight twist from the original film still made for a very entertaining show.

This is the second time I've seen this show and once again it was great! There were 6 of us in our group ranging from 40-70 and we all loved it. The singing and dancing were spot on. Definitely worth seeing if you love theatre/musicals and if you are a fan of ABBA songs.

  • 2014 Mama Mia not a true family show

by rangerrice on 2014-04-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

I have seen Mama Mia the musical a few times. I have always enjoyed it but this time I found a few scenes to sexually explicit to be a true family show. My friend and I brought our 13 & 11 yr old daughters and we were all shocked and surprised when during a few of the songs the characters were undressing one another. The show does not need to be this explicit to be fun and enjoyable. My friend and I were disappointed for sure in this part of the show.

I took a friend that hadn't seen the movie and she just loved it. As an ABBA fan, who wouldn't leave singing. I would see it again and again.

Some parts seemed weak. Maybe the orchestra was to loud. Several performers quite strong,

Okay performance. Lacked energy throughout. Lighting poor and set forgetable.

What a terrific show! Everything was spot on from the casting, singing, band, acting, costumes, set--everything!! It's campy and it's fun, but it's pure entertainment and the cast looks like they're having a ball. I am already looking forward to the next time it rolls into town. Probably not for another couple of years, but I'll be there!
