    Comic opera almost too funny

by Malj on 2009-11-29Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The production was enjoyable and entertaining. The voices and acting on stage were very good. The orchestra also did an excellent job with the music. I found the busy stage work at times detracted my attention from just being able to appreciate the beautiful music and the voices. The audience was also sometimes disturbing with constant laughter and making comments on the various activities on stage.. Overall it was a very plesant performance, but personally I prefer a more conservative production for opera, with less physical diversions on stage. I did go home smiling and entertained.

This is my first opera in a long time. I've seen it before as a child. And I really had a good time. I would for sure go again.

Very neat/ Figaro very very good/ funny and acting above average for opera. He handled the complicated diction very well. The soprano had a good connection with the audience.

    Fantastic Opera

by Rubyrosebud on 2009-11-28Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

A hilarious romantic comedy that combines the matchmaking skills of a greedy barber, a beautiful young ward, a miserly guardian and a wealthy count hiding his true identity that will leave you in stitches. The revolving stage was cunningly designed so that viewers were treated to a fantastic chase between two of the minions whereby they dash between the various parts of the house while the home revolves to reveal the exterior and interior. Michievous Rosina plays pranks on her guardian; the performers engage in a slow motion brawl...Superbly done with a happy ending... a rare treat for the senses... a must see for opera fans.

    Funny, but losts its steam

by Kyles on 2009-11-26Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

For my first ever opera experience the Barber of Seville wasn't bad. It had some really funny moments, but I found that by the end most of that had fizzled out. Opera isn't for everyone, so go see for yourself.

by Dibs on 2009-11-25Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Great opera. I am a novice opera goer and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would advise my friends to go to an opera just once in their lifetime and this one is a great one to start.

Barber of Seville was highly entertaining!

by Jacey on 2009-11-23Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Barber of Seville was highly entertaining, and the story was easy to follow. The main characters were well balanced, each with a fair bit of time on stage. The stop action and slow motion techniques greatly enhanced the experience. This is one of the best operas we have attended and would be interested in a repeat performance. Well done!!!!

The Only Precaution? Be prepared to enjoy!

by TerraRoxa on 2009-11-22Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

This was my first opera experience, but I am now hooked. Manitoba Opera's production of The Barber of Seville was truly fantastic! I cannot imagine Rossini's masterpiece done any better. Each character, whether major or minor, was portrayed impeccably, the staging was brilliant, and the music was exquisite. Bravo!

This was my first time at the opera and I really enjoyed myself--the subtitles at the top of the stage were a great help, and the singing was just phenomenal. Very funny, would definitely go again!

    Barber of Seville, smooth shaving

Great performance. Female lead hit the high notes with ease. The Director should be lauded for the slo -mo sequence. An amazing performance, enjoyed by all.

    First time Opera was fun!

by SassyCassie1212 on 2009-11-22Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

This was my frist time to the Opera and The Barber of Seville was unforgettable! I had no idea what to expect and i laughed the entire time. it was a great intro to the Opera and i would recommend it to anyone young or old. The voices were amazing and the story is so easy to follow even without the handy subtitles at the top. Grade A performance :O)
