The new Queen of Fado

For many it seemed difficult to contemplate that one day the legendary Amália Rodrigues, who rightfully so was referred to as the Queen of fado, would be replaced. But Mariza's own style and musical energy have in fact provided us with worthy successor. Mariza's ability to keep her audience in utter suspension as she pauses mid-song to resume in a barely audible fashion is truly spectacular. Just as you sit back in your chair having witnessed an exquisite vocal experience, she opens all registers and with great passion sweeps the audience to the opposite side of the volume spectrum. You don't need to speak Portuguese when you listen to Mariza's version of a fado, her voice stirs the right emotions associated with the text being sung. What an incredibly gifted singer she is indeed. Long live the new Queen of Fado!

She is funny, interactive with the audience, and taught us what her music, Portuguese fado, was all about. Her guitarists and drummer were also amazing!!! Even without an intermission, we didn't even notice that the two hours had gone by - she was that good! She even stayed behind to sign c.d.'s. We found her to be a very personable and soulful performer. She has a beautiful, and very strong and amazing voice. Overall, it was a very fun and memorable concert experience! I would highly recommend her music and concerts to anyone.
