November 9th, Matthew Good. Incredible show. Good displays an unwavering passion for what he does second best and puts on a show that communicates that passion to his audience with unquestionable clarity. From beginning to end (or from "The Boy Who Could Explode" to "Champions of Nothing"), Matt and his band played with energy and enthusiasm that washed over the crowd, an audible, giddy contagion. Good's music, however powerful and inspiring, comes as a close second to his humor and political commentary as he took a moment to talk to the audience about a certain ridiculous legislation regarding the 2010 Winter Olympics. Always educational, informative and characteristically nefarious, Good planted a few humorous ideas in the heads of his listeners, which I'm sure more than a few of us will implement in the name of social justice. All in all, a fantastic show, not at all unlike what I've come to expect, having attended a number of Matthew Good's performances.

below average. so much potential.. but too much wash rock and overuse of the vocal element. i want my money and time back. change your style matt. its the same for most 90's bands/acts... evolve your sound or be content with a small out of style following.

  • MGo rocked even though the Van crowd didn't.

Matthew Good never dissapoints. I haven't seen him play with a band in a few years and I was blown away. My only dissapointment was the audience. They were zombies! Everyone just sitting there staring. Cummon Vancouver! We're supposed to be Matthew's biggest fans and no one seemed into it. Vancouver needs a lesson in rock and roll.

EVERYONE needs to see a Matt Good show. The theatre-style environment really works for the band.

  • Another great show by MG

Matthew Good came on about 8:30pm, we missed the opening band but we usually do as we only have eyes & ears for Matthew Good. He opened with a track from his new album and he rocked it from there. Besides the always annoying drunk people who yell random things at random times the show was amazing. The venue was comfy and the sound was amazing.

  • Matt Good's Concerts are Fantastic

by lifeismusic on 2009-11-05Abbey Arts Centre - AbbotsfordRating: 5 out of 5

I've liked Matt Good for years but have never had the oppportunity to see him live. I loved his show - the time went by in an instant. Every song his sings is better live in concert - even songs that I thought were just OK on CD were awesome live. I'd go and see him again in a heart beat! The only critiscm I can think of is that he turns away from the audience and plays to his drummer too often, but I wouldn't let that stop me from seeing him again.

  • MG, always a great show.

Played lots of the new album, some of the old stuff (BM, mostly), and told a nice story about a ninja and a pirate :)

Blake Manning, drummer extraordinaire, quite possibly played the best show of his career. He wooed us with his spot-on harmonies, his patience when guitars needed to be switched before he started the next song, and his rapt attention to the setlist order. (Hee hee hee!)

  • Matt Good was more than good!

The Matthew Good concert at the Abby Arts Center was fantastic. The venue, while looking like nothing much on the outside, provided an intimate atmosphere as well as amazing acoustics that you just get from a smaller place. The music was phenomenal as usually and incorportated both songs from his new Vancouver album and many of his old hits. Matt Good himself was quite entertaining and did some improv comedy type dialogue. All in all the show was fantastic leaving little to be desired and I would certainly see both Matt Good and attend this venue again.

Mother Mother opened the show and they were fantastic live! So much energy, it was really exciting. :) This was my third time seeing Matthew Good and he did not let me down. He always puts on an awesome show. I like that he does a combination of both the older and newer material. My friend and I had the best seats and a killer time!

  • MGs still got it

Yeah the boys were warming up for the tour, but they still ripped it up! Great new work.

I've seen Matt in concert about 5 or 6 times now, both with his band and solo acoustic tours, and they are all definately worth your money. He doesn't charge a fortune for the tickets or merchandise at the shows, and it doesn't matter if you're sitting or standing forever while you're there, you always have a good time. His voice and instrumentation are amazing, and his songs always sound as good as the CDs and better live. He picks great performers/ Canadian bands to open for his shows, and he meets with fans afterwards, will sign your CDs and take pictures with you. Support this awesome Canadian talent whenever you get the chance, you won't be disapointed!

I have seen MATT many times. He is a modern poet. We are lucky to have such a talented Canadian artist! If you haven't had the opportunity to see him live, you have to see him to believe how unbelievably talented this national treasure truly is. In addition to this he is also a fervent activist and really nice person. I have met him personally when my brother-in-law was working as his guitar tech on one of his tours, and he is a really cool, down to earth person. Matt, if your reading this you have to contact me so that we can get together for that sushi we talked about! Cheers.
