Taiwanese alt-rock pioneers Mayday are an emblem of the island's budding '90s youth culture, beloved by fans around the world for their melodic Mandarin-language anthems. Stating publicly that they hope to become "The Beatles of the Chinese world," the band has released over 15 records since their 1999 debut, exploring a variety of styles ranging from garage rock to slick pop ballads. Renowned for their commitment to fans, Mayday have been known to perform for up to five hours, and with tickets for their 2014 Now-Here World Tour dates already selling out, the band is sure to deliver another round of unforgettable performances.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mayday is a band with student roots, founded in high school by singer Ashin and lead guitarist Monster. The band's first two albums, Mayday's First Album (1999) and Viva Love (2000), made them overnight superstars in Taiwan, resulting in a Golden Melody Award — Taiwan's equivalent of a Grammy —for Best Band in 2001. The group would take home the same award three more times, cementing their importance in Taiwanese music and increasing their international fanbase. Following the 2011 release of their eighth studio album Second Round, the band embarked on another international tour, thrilling fans around the world with marathon sets of their greatest hits.
