Medeski, Martin & Wood Tickets

Awesome venue, great show!!!!! Medeski, Martin & Wood did not disappoint!!!

I've seen this trio before and enjoyed the show immensely. Previously they were so engaging they had people dancing in the aisles and listening intently. I went to this show with a little trepidation because their recently albums have been a lot more experimental than their early/mid stuff. I hoped they might play some recognizable music. However when they took to the stage they played improv for about 1.5 hours and maybe 10 minutes of it was actually coherent. There was no dancing as nobody could find a rhythm to dance to. There was little applause and I sensed that the encore only existed because we wanted to hear some music you could groove to. There were few tickets sold, since it was at a casino I overheard people saying they'd never heard of the band before, but they were given tickets free during their gambling. I assume this was to pad the audience a little because it was less than 1/3rd full. Overall it was a disapointment. If MMW want to be known again for a great live show, they need to reign in the experimental/acid a bit and play some coherent Jazz with strong rhythm.
