Michel Lagrand's piano playing is extraordinary

by LLBGlobal on 2009-11-14Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

It was amazing to be in the presence of such a legand in the music. Michel Lagrand is devine on the piano, and it was an honor to hear him sing. His band was superb, and the instrumental numbers were mezmerizing! Mario Pelchat has a great big voice, perfect for Lagrand's music. I actually went to see Mario Pelchat, and other than that he was only on for half of the second act, too short of a time, he was terrific and I am so thrilled to have finally seen him live. I assure you it will not be the last time either, and I hope he makes a special trip to Toronto in the future.

    MIchel Legrand

A delightful concert. Michel Legrand is a remarkable talent and performs superbly at 77 years old. Would have liked to hear a few more songs in French. Liked Mario Pelchat as well.

    Michel Legrand in concert

by sosia on 2009-11-14Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

Michel Legrand is a great artist. A great performer, exquisite pianist and composer, a living legend. He knows also to entertain, he introduced his songs with funny notes. What the show lacked was a good staging. The lights were miserable, most of the time the stage was in dark tones. His entrance was almost unnoticeable! It looked like a show staged for a school play and not for the professional Winter Gardens. Also, we expected more songs being sung in French, it would not hurt! The fact that he did not give encores was a little draw back, too. His last rendition of Les Parapluies de Cherbourg was the best moment in the night. Hellas, it was sooo short!

A once in a lifetime event

by Vadyusha on 2009-11-14Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

One of the most incredible concerts I have ever had the privilege to attend. Michel Legrand is a master virtuoso of the jazz piano, and one of the best songwriters of all time. A spectacular concert that will never be forgotten.

    Michel Legrand

by MichaelandNancy on 2009-11-14Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

At age 77, he is still an amazing jazz pianist from what I saw and heard with my wife Nancy from centre row 2 last night at the Toronto Winter Garden theatre, the first of his Nov 13/14 two shows wrapping up his 25 date Canadian tour. His songs are utterly and at times hauntingly beautiful ranging from brisk jazz to lilting love songs. The calibre of musicianship and artistry he brought to stage with vocalist Mario Pelchat and harpist Catherine Michel, and a first class 3 piece band (double bass/drums/guitar) was his usual - absolutely exceptional - every song was played and sung with soulful care and passion and playing precision. First time I've heard Mario or Catherine. His a strong beautiful voice delivered with joie de vivre. Her playing was powerful, precise and a perfect melodic compliment to Michel on the piano (Summer of 42 particularly). The first time I heard a piece by Michel, it was his theme song to the Wuthering Heights movie in the 1970s, and that orchestral version I heard as a young teen has haunted me ever since. He played a captivating version last night he described as a song about love and "life after life", what a legacy he has established with his music. What a wonderful evening. Mike

Michel Legrand - is part of our life (better part)

by Yurver on 2009-11-14Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

The performance was amazing, but it is only one part of the show. The aura of Michel Legrand and his music are keeping you under the magic feelings that something extraordinary is happening now. I feel great impression from the appearance of amazing Catherine Michel, and remarkable harp sound. I've been expecting more songs on French, but Mario Pelchat was perfect interpreter in terms of presenting the soul of songs. Unbelievable !!!

It got off to a slow start....Music was good...singing was disappointing. Michel Le Grand was amazing considering his age!
