    Inspirational Night

by Nslady on 2023-11-04Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Enjoyed listening to Michelle's motivation inspiration to the youth. Felt the moderator was not the right person to interview her and a little disappointed that the event was cut short. Seemed Michelle was not happy with some of the questions and wanted to cut it short. Would love to see her back, but with a more qualified moderator who resonates more with Michelle message.

    We love Michelle Obama But….

by France on 2023-11-01Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Very disappointed with the questions that the interviewer was asking and not impressed with the interviewer as well. The cost of the tickets was not worth the hour and 10 minutes

Michelle Obama was wonderful...the experience not so much

by AM on 2023-10-23Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Michelle Obama is an articulate, intelligent, compassionate leader. The moderator sadly asked disappointingly superficial questions which made it difficult for Michelle Obama to answer with any depth. However Obama still managed to share her insights and compassion. Unfortunately getting into the Scotiabank Center was a nightmare...delays entering led to people almost missing the event even though they arrived with plenty of time to spare. Nevertheless hearing Michelle Obama was definitely a memorable experience!

    Truly dismal moderator

by Marelcase on 2023-10-23Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Michelle Obama was exceptional despite the moderator. Seemingly unprepared, in both questions and decorum (she presumed to call President Obama and Mrs Obama by their given names uninvited?), the evening would have been dramatically improved were Michelle Obama a solo keynote address. Dianne Kelderman failed to appropriately listen to Mrs Obama’s answers and interviewed as though she was reading a grocery list of unimaginative (and sometimes offensive) questions. She not only took the opportunity to speak about her own experiences, but actually interrupted Mrs Obama on multiple occasions. It was profoundly disappointing to have such an exceptional speaker sabotaged by an inappropriate moderator and honestly, her role left me feeling embarrassed. I hope that the shortfalls of the evening were discussed with Mrs Kelderman and that a formal apology was offered to Mrs Obama.

Michelle was wonderful. Too bad about the Moderator.

by Gram on 2023-10-22Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Michelle Obama was wonderful: funny, warm, brilliant, and a real pro at lobbing back great answers to dumb questions. I’ve read her books, and wish the Moderator had done so as well, or at least did some diligent homework. She (the Moderator) was embarrassing for multiple reasons, to the extent that I was squirming in my seat. Example paraphrased questions..how did it feel when you made more (income) than your husband..? And..What’s your first thought in the morning? This..to someone on the world stage..

Michelle was a Queen… thumbs down for the interviewer

by Amy on 2023-10-22Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Michelle Obama was absolutely incredible !!! However… the lady interviewing her was terrible… on many occasions. She asked Michelle a lot of ridiculous questions.. such as “what’s the first thing you think about when you wake up?” This is Michelle Obama. And Princeton and Harvard graduate… who cares about that!! I would have rather her been asked about her accomplishments. Her thoughts on what we can do together to become better. What are some challenges you’ve faced in different stages of your life. Anything. You could tell the interviewer never read either of her 3 books. Michelle Obama talked briefly about having the title of first “lady” and how that felt so little. At the end of the interview… I kid you not… the interviewer tells her “thank you to the most admirable FIRST LADY”…??! How about admirable accomplished woman. Something more respectable than lady. She has so many other qualities and accomplishments other than what she did in the White House. Such ridiculous questions and comments made by the interviewer. Thankfully Michelle was able to reroute most questions to make it more in tune with her audience.

    Disappointing moderator

    by G.R. on 2023-10-22Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Michelle Obama was amazing. Unfortunately the moderator did not draw out or reflect upon her legacy, interests and core messages. Having a young woman of colour may have been a better interviewer and to be candid, an opportunity was missed.

Michelle was amazing, even my was not

by LA on 2023-10-22Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Michelle Obama could sit on a folding chair in and empty room and I would listen. The moderator was terrible, the lights were off upon entry and exit making it very difficult to navigate, and the actual event start time was very strange (4 vs 6)

    Underwhelming

by SED on 2023-10-22Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Mrs Obama could have spoken about so many things, instead we got stories about building gardens, her daughter’s puberty. I should have just read the book. She was so non inspirational.

Terrible entrance and access to the event

by LP on 2023-10-22Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

The event was great. However we missed the first 20 minutes- along with hundreds of other patrons - because we had to wait outside during the slowest entrance/access procedures we’ve experienced. Either speed up screening and ticket scanning or postpone the beginning of the event. It would also be better to direct patrons to specific entrances to speed up entry, and to provide directions inside so patrons know how to efficiently get to their seats.
