There is so much to say about last night that I'm scared to even begin. An absolutely breathtaking show put on by the Meevster, featuring raw, toned-down versions of many of his better-known classics that made it impossible to ignore the unique level of sheer talent that supports the man's winning charisma and stage 'tude. And boy, does he know how to work a crowd. I've never seen someone demand so much from their audience, and get it all from them with a simple smirk or flick of his finger. Miyavi is a true showman, artist, and musician who showed us his art, his heart and his passion for what he does in the three hours he was on stage. If/when he comes back to Toronto, I will be back with bells on.
And maybe some stirrups to, however, given the rather obnoxious behaviour of many who unfortunately attended this event. The only reason I can not give this evening/event a full 5 golden stars is because of many of the other people in the crowd and the shocking level of incompetence of some who were involved in the initial organization of getting everyone inside and checked through security. Piss-poor organization and rudeness on the part of those working outside at the venue, obnoxious weeaboos who were more engrossed in conversations with eachother and fixing their stupid horizontal hair during the concert, and I kid you not, there was a girl dressed as that blue thing from Lilo and Stitch, or whatever that baby movie is, standing just to my right. So...next time I go see David Bowie, I"ll be sure to dress as Kermit the Frog.
It's a shame that Miyavi does not yet seem to have the Canadian fanbase he deserves; fans who appreciate him for his music and his showmanship, rather than those who view his shows as excuses to dress in costumes, get drunk, and scream self-indulgent B.S. at him all night. If people had actually shut up at some parts and watching/listening to what he has to offer, anyone with any kind of genuine interest would have gotten much more out of the night. There is definitely a more mature, more knowledgeable fanbase in Canada for Miyavi; they just haven't found eachother yet. But with Miyavi's skill, passion and true beliefs in unity and the power of one, it's only a matter of time.
