Mizzou Tigers Men's Basketball History
Mizzou played its first season of men’s college basketball back during the 1906-07 campaign as an independent school. One year later, the school joined the Missouri Valley Conference. In 1967 Norm Stewart took over the team, which was then a member of the Big Eight conference. Stewart led the Tigers from 1967 to 1999, during which Mizzou won eight conference titles and made 16 NCAA tournament appearances. The era featured Derrick Chievous, Anthony Peeler and Steve Stipanovich playing for Mizzou en route to successful NBA careers.
While they were a charter member of the Big 12 Conference upon its inception in 1996, Missouri joined the SEC in 2012. Since joining the SEC, the Tigers have made the NCAA Tournament six times.
