NAS >> Lauryn Hill
by KikiAM on 2017-09-13Budweiser Stage - TorontoI was interested in seeing both these artists. I loved the idea of hearing all those great hits. I saw the earlier acts, Fifi, Chronixx, Nas and Lauryn. Personally, I thought that Chronixx and Nas was great! By far the best acts of this concert. Nas was able to energize the crowd, he stuck to all the greats and even songs that you didn't think would be thre because of collaborations, he sang it. When he was on the stagem every one was up, the phones were out and people were sining and dancing away. You could tell that the crowd was enjoying every bit of his performance. Now, Lauryn, she was late but about 30 minutes approximately. I was annoyed by her performance, it seemed that in between songs, and even during her performance she was always trying to fix the sound. Talking to her band or the sound crew. IN between each finished song, there was slight confusion and moments of silence. She frequently looked at her band and back up singers and didn't engage the crowd. What bothered me the most was that, she changed the sound to all her hits. She didn't sing it the way it was suppos eto be sung or how us fans heard it and cherished it. She rushed through many of the songs and the sound was more towards a " rock sound ". I have no issues with rock, but I remebered her songs had more R&B, soul to it. Also the band was too loud and you could barely hear what she was singing/rapping. It was nice how they seperated the performances, Nas was on for about 45 minutes, then Lauryn and then they repeated that again. They finished the night off with a collab perfomance of If I ruled the world, it would have been better if they did a couple more songs together. Overall, was a good concert but I attribute that mroe towards Nas. He satified my nostalgic needs but I was disappointed with Lauryn hill's performance, sad to say.
