    NAS >> Lauryn Hill

by KikiAM on 2017-09-13Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I was interested in seeing both these artists. I loved the idea of hearing all those great hits. I saw the earlier acts, Fifi, Chronixx, Nas and Lauryn. Personally, I thought that Chronixx and Nas was great! By far the best acts of this concert. Nas was able to energize the crowd, he stuck to all the greats and even songs that you didn't think would be thre because of collaborations, he sang it. When he was on the stagem every one was up, the phones were out and people were sining and dancing away. You could tell that the crowd was enjoying every bit of his performance. Now, Lauryn, she was late but about 30 minutes approximately. I was annoyed by her performance, it seemed that in between songs, and even during her performance she was always trying to fix the sound. Talking to her band or the sound crew. IN between each finished song, there was slight confusion and moments of silence. She frequently looked at her band and back up singers and didn't engage the crowd. What bothered me the most was that, she changed the sound to all her hits. She didn't sing it the way it was suppos eto be sung or how us fans heard it and cherished it. She rushed through many of the songs and the sound was more towards a " rock sound ". I have no issues with rock, but I remebered her songs had more R&B, soul to it. Also the band was too loud and you could barely hear what she was singing/rapping. It was nice how they seperated the performances, Nas was on for about 45 minutes, then Lauryn and then they repeated that again. They finished the night off with a collab perfomance of If I ruled the world, it would have been better if they did a couple more songs together. Overall, was a good concert but I attribute that mroe towards Nas. He satified my nostalgic needs but I was disappointed with Lauryn hill's performance, sad to say.

    Lackluster performance by MLH

by tdotconcertgoer on 2017-09-13Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I'll start with the good... This is my second time seeing Nas in concert... He never disappoints! He did a great job pumping up the crowd with his classic fan favourites. Full of energy, the audience was right there with him. I wish I could say the same about Lauryn Hill... I have heard many rumours about why she doesn't perform anymore, now I know why. She re-arranged all of her songs to the point of nonrecognition. No one in the crowd knew what songs she was singing... not to mention, her voice is clearly not the same as it used to be. People in the audience looked confused, no one was dancing or singing along and even heard numerous people booing her. A lot of people sitting around us just left altogether. It was a very disappointing, bizarre performance by one of the highest regarded R&B artists of our generation. P.S. I'm an avid concert goer and this is THE FIRST TIME I did not hear the audience pressing the artist for an "encore"... Says a lot about how people felt about the performance :\

Front Seats blocked by other people

by Badkonak on 2017-09-13Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Nas and Lauryn Hill were amazing. The performances were great. I bought section 101, row E seats which were right at the front. As the concert started people started to gather in between the seats and stage and partially blocked the view and space got really tight. Also, the base was extremely heavy at the front. It is expected as I guess it has to travel all the way to the back and field. I would get cheaper tickets and a bit further in the back if I had to do it again. It was absolutely amazing to see Nas and Lauryn Hill live though, so overall it was a great night.

Half man & woman, half amazing...

by SoldierOfLove on 2017-09-13Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Been dying to see L-Boogie for the longest time but with her tardiness, I've been hesitant. However, seeing that this was a collab tour, I figured that she HAD to actually follow a schedule, which she did. Her stage presence and performance were outstanding. The one thing I did find irritating was the fact that all of her songs weren't sang in their originality. Because of this, it really took away the nostalgia from all her hits. *Most* people were on their feet but weren't moving; just watched. Some were sitting. This was really because you can't thoroughly enjoy the sets because again, you didn't know what the hell she was singing unless you know her music very well. Nas on the other hand had everyone on their feet, full of excitement and enthusiasm the entire time. Don't get me wrong, Lauryn still sounded amazing and her rap flow was unbelievable, but watching her was like watching someone new to the game. You enjoy it but not to its full extent due to the unfamiliarity.

    Nas was Amazing!!

by FutureFan on 2017-09-13Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Nas was amazing!! I wish it was a show of just him performing. Ms. Lauryn Hill can definitely hit a high note, however I barely understood the words she sang, perhaps I am more familiar with her older classic songs with the Fugees, but I did not recognize or really understand much of what she sang. I would definitely see the show again, simply to see more of Nas. He is a legend and I am so grateful that I got to see him in concert at least once!
