About
Mura Masa In Concert
British electro producer Alex Crossan has skyrocketed to fame since debuting in 2014 with the mixtape Soundtrack to a Death. In 2015, he released his breakthrough single, the flitting collaboration with fellow Brit Nao, called "Firefly." As Mura Masa, the Guernsey-raised producer-songwriter and jack-of-all-trades has become well-known for his blending of genres and ability to work with artists from all over the pop spectrum in addition to Nao, he's worked with English pop futurist Charli XCX, style-forward New York MC A$AP Rocky, and French movement specialist Christine and the Queens.
Mura Masa's 2016 collaboration with A$AP Rocky on "Love$ick" earned him a nomination in Britain's songwriting-minded Ivor Novello Awards for Best Contemporary Song. In 2017, Mura Masa released his self-titled debut album, a wide-ranging take on 21st-century pop where crunkmaster Lil Jon and Piero Piccioni's exotica classic "Tahiti" exist on the same plane, with stars like Britpop elder statesman Damon Albarn and Brooklyn rapper Desiigner helping him fill out his vision. It earned 2018 Grammy nominations, including one for Best Dance/Electronic Album. Masa has done extensive remix and production work for artists all over the pop spectrum, including disco legends Chic and pop superstar Ed Sheeran; his rework of Haim's 2017 track "Something to Tell You" notched him a 2019 Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
While many of the big-name collaborators don't tour with him, Masa keeps the energy high at his live shows, precisely calibrating his music so that it takes the crowd on a journey through a wide spectrum of moods, as well as sounds sourced from all over the globe. In 2018, he's been releasing new singles including a reunion with his "Firefly" collaborator Nao, the retro-minded, snaky "Complicated" in the run-up to his next album.
