The Odin Quartet at the St Lawrence Centre of Arts

by sa on 2022-12-14Jane Mallett Theatre - Toronto

The concert was amazing. I was really impressed with the musicality and choice of movements. I was expecting to see the St. Lawrence Quartet but they were unable to perform instead the Odin quartet performed the whole show and what a delight, I will definitely attend more of their concerts.

    The worst

by Dan P on 2022-04-15Jane Mallett Theatre - Toronto

I was looking forward to M. A. Hamelin’s concert, as he is very renowned. The program was somewhat of a torture. He’d chosen most atonal pieces for the bulk of the program. His Beethoven did not sound like a Beethoven at all. But most annoying was the background noise/squeak for the most of the second part. Just not a great experience all together

    A noisy race

by Pete Hogan on 2021-11-12Jane Mallett Theatre - Toronto

First of all, Hough is a world class pianist, full stop. That being said, he should stick to playing and forget about composing. His own piece was god awful noise, hard to listen to. To be fair, I came to listen to the Chopin repertoire. This was the most disappointing. I’ve never heard someone race so fast through Chopin. Notes were missed, and the control wasn’t there. The guy has probably played this 1000+ times, but it should still be played at a controlled tempo. To top it all off, there was a mechanical squeaking you could hear through the whole show. Maybe a fan or something. Terrible for those with sensitive ears. Lastly, the audience was filled with boors. People coughing, phones going off, watch alarms sounding. Jesus people, have you never been to a concert?
