    Mixed feelings...

by S. D. on 2020-02-18National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I'll just be honest... Great orchestra performance, as usual ! But a lot of disturbance created by the way-too-young-kids for this kind of music ( my humble opinion). Guess I didn't ready very careful the description of the show. My bad...

It could have been more elaborate

by Susan on 2020-02-18National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I am still wondering why they did not elaborate more...I mean... just a couple of kids walking in the stage and making funny faces, a video of one of these kids going to a forest and doing nothing...Seriously???Come on! It was just a distraction from the wonderful music the orchestra was playing. I am sure you can do better. My girls' faces would say it all at the end of the short show...I am not coming back for kids' shows in the near future.

    Children loved it!

by Milva on 2018-05-29National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

It was amazing. It’s hard to get children to keep attention but they were mesmerized by Alexander’s commanding conducting of an amazing orchestra. Would definitely go again.

    Not what i expected

by Ghyslaine on 2017-05-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

My grandkids loved the dancing, and the music. They listened to Rick with interest but I was expecting a play narrated by Rick Mercer. So a little disapointed but still a plus since my guests loved it!

    Broughtasmile

by Lovehismusic on 2017-05-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Very enjoyable narration by Rick Mercer. Very good representational music. One aspect that could have captured more thoroughly the attention of young children would have been for thé story characters to be added on stage, in costume playing their parts.

Music program too long for kids

by PierreP on 2016-04-26National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The pre-performance events; allowing children to try various instruments etc. were very good. The clown mime's were very entertaining and fun for kids. The actual orchestral music sections were too long to hold the attention of small children.

Great show but not advertised as bilingual

by BoomerMom on 2015-05-06National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

A paintbrush for Picollo was a great show for young kids and family. It was not advertised as a bilingual show. I could still follow the performance, but I think that information should have been included in the description.

Wonderful way to sample Beethovens work

by CelloSoul on 2015-01-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Fun and light way to be introduced to Beethovens work. NAC orchestra was fantastic. I went home and started to listen to Beethoven pieces to add to my repertoire. Thoroughly enjoyed my hour .

My kids (11 and 6) didn't like it nor did my mother. They were bored and very disappointed. It was also very cheesy that only the first 3/4 of the book was read. A Very cheesy tactic and icing on the cake for insult.

    The hockey Sweater

by Newtocats on 2014-01-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The performance was very entertaining; with Ken Dryden, Roch Carrier, the orchestra, conductor and the dance performers. I was impressed with the event; not impressed with the parking fees.

    An amazing experience!

by brittvgirl on 2014-01-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The Hockey Sweater as presented by the NACO, and hosted by Ken Dryden, was wonderful. The opportunity to see and hear M. Carrier read his classic aloud, with specially commissioned music playing behind him, and illustrations from the story on the big screen, was an experience I will remember forever.

    Refreshing!

by AlwaysAnik on 2014-01-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I bought tickets to this event without even knowing what it was, exactly. All I knew was that my husband (a Habs fan) and I (a Leafs fan) were avid fans of Roch Carrier's book and had to see what it was all about. It was tremendous! The NAC orchestra was wonderful, as was seeing Ken Dryden! Overall, a truly refreshing and enjoyable experience!

    Energetic and Engaging!

by Vimy on 2014-01-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

What a treat! The Hockey Sweater was much more than we expected. The interaction of the NAC Orchestra with Roch Carrier's narration added a great dimension to the performance! Very unique elements led to the actual reading. The timing was perfect and our family will never forget the unique delivery of this iconic Canadian story. Encore!!!

Would have rated it higher if tickets were cheaper

by Leftar on 2013-04-29National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The show was ok... Reasonable. My 8 year old enjoyed it. My 14 year old did not. I guess I would have recommended it if ticket prices were lower. I'm really interested in learning more about aboriginal art and culture, and I'm sure many people are, and it would be a shame if they were turned away by the cost of tickets.

    It was a bit odd

by kellyj06 on 2013-02-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Sorry to say that we didn't enjoy this event. The beginning with the conductor was entertaining and informative but had nothing to do with Green Eggs and Ham which was odd to me. Then when the concert moved into the Green Eggs and Ham part it was odd and almost uncomfortable to watch. The Sam-I-Am character wasn't in costume while the other character was but it wasn't clear what kind of costume it was supposed to be. The recipient of Sam-I-Am's pestering was obviously talented but maybe not the right person for the job. It was often unclear what she was singing and the operatic tricks were a bit much for small children. My son complained she was shouting too much. I wish I had of known it was also to be a mixed bilingual performance. Many times what was said in French was not repeated in English and I"m sure vice versa and I had to constantly whisper to my son what they were talking about. I expected more fun and playfulness in a performance named after the famous Dr. Seuss book. My son wanted to leave several times.
