I have been a BIG fan of Natalie Cole since her first big hit, Inseparable. I have seen her 4 different times and her voice still amazes me. Her performance on Friday night was different in a few ways. First, in the past Natalie normally takes the stage for 65-70 minutes. Friday she was up there for 105 minutes. Second, Natalie is not normally very chatty, Friday she talked about her dad and a bit of her childhood. Very appreciated. Third, I have never seen her perform anything outside of her repertoire of songs (this includes newly released songs) but Friday she did a medley of hits as a tribute to recent singers that have passed away. This was terrific! I recognized the band leader from previous appearances. Is this the girl that co-wrote La Costa with Natalie? Overall, I was happy with the evening as I like both the old songs from the 50s and 60s and the R&B material (although there wasn't much R&B). Looking forward to the new Spanish CD release.
