  • Head Pins stol;e the show

by Hunky on 2009-07-13Edmonton Event Centre - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Head Pins were awesome - Hard to believe she is 50 and can still belt it out. Nazareth was great but they looked old and frail and all the bass guitar glitches were an annoyance to Nazreth's over all performance. The Edmonton Concert location was terrific and our VIP seats were super it took my wife Sue Q back to our youth. We hope to do it again next year.

The bands were great, a few hickups with equipment however very good. The venue wasn't very good place... Sound too loud for venue. We were sitting at the back and some of the music was so loud it was distorted.

  • Darby Mills still rocks!

After 30 years of rockin' Darby Mills and the Headpins still rock! It was a great show!

  • Good but too loud

by Haze on 2009-07-12Deerfoot Inn & Casino - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

We attended last evening along with another couple and sat in row 5. Although we enjoyed it, I thought it was too loud and the vocals were distorted at times with both groups. Unfortunately, I now have a permanent ringing in one of my ears which was a pre condition that got worse after last night. In the future, I will not sit that close up.

  • Nazareth found lacking

by Roxy on 2009-07-12Deerfoot Inn & Casino - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

Headpins were great, Darby Mills has the same high energy she did 25 years ago. Nazareth - every song seemed to sound the same. There was no energy for the crowd to draw on and other than a few die hard fans, the crowd never did work itself up to give Nazareth more than polite applause. I found them definitely lacking.

  • wrong location

i saw nazareth last year with the headpins at the river cree. well the venue was much larger. i bought vip tickets this time in hopes of having good seats table service. well basically we were cattled to the side i a platform area and you were lucky to find a stool to sit on. the washrooms were gross and yet there was an attendant expecting tips not deserved with water downed soap. the guest bad called addd, i think, were horrible. i could think of other local bands that play better. the headpins were good, but they didn't play long enough as first act was too long and i think they were all saving time. next nazareth, well started strong 3rd song in bass guitar amp blew. another delay. then they were good but not like last year. last song amp blew again. a delay again and then a small encore . think with the delays and how late things were running the band had a hard time giving their full.. the crowded floor with gross sticky drinks spilled and empty cans and cups was very unappealing. i will never attend a venue and the edmonton events center ever again. unless proper renovations are done.

Do not like cover bands!!!! The HeadPins have traveled with Nazarth to many years as I have seen Nazareth three times and every time with the same band, same songs, same jokes, this time with Nazareth they had many problems with brass equipment twice which took a long time to short time fix. They did not play they best songs played many songs I did not know. I grown up with Nazareth as I am 54 years young. Did not like every time band change took a long time to set up do to changing band equipment. Doors did not opened + 30 minutes after time on tickets. Did not come back for any songs after final show. Concerted finished @ 02:00 hours. Had VIP tickets did not look at our tickets then had to go back to check in point and get wrist bands losing good seats as it was general seating. First come gets best seats so I lost my chance at good seats..

  • Loved the concert - bit past my bedtime though!

by OlderRocker on 2009-07-11Edmonton Event Centre - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

I've loved both Nazareth and Headpins since the 70s, and both bands proved they can still rock! Headpins were fantastic and 80-D did a great opener, too. Given the lateness of the hour by the time Nazareth hit the stage, some obviously ill band members, and a few technical difficulties with bass, the music was still fantastic! (Loved the oldies, that's what I went for!) Those of us closing in on 50 or older can't do the all-nighters like we used to, though, and that probably includes the band members. Would have been great if the whole event had STARTED at 7 p.m. and ended a bit earlier. It wasn't until around midnight before Nazareth even started, and by then it was past the older fans bedtime, and most of the younger crowd was so drunk - and beligerent - they wouldn't have known Nazareth from Alabama.
