New York Rangers History
The Rangers, one of the Original Six NHL teams, were founded in 1926 by Tex Rickard. According to legend, the New York media nicknamed the team “Tex's Rangers,” a play on the famed law enforcers Texas Rangers.
The team has won four Stanley Cup Championships, the first of which came in only their second season (1928) and the most recent in 1994, beating Vancouver in Game 7 to break a 54-year drought and send Cup-starved fans into a frenzy. The Rangers have also taken home four Presidents’ Trophies and won eight divisional championships — most recently winning both for the 2023-2024 season.
The Rangers' 2017-2018 campaign broke a string of seven consecutive seasons in which the team reached the Playoffs — including the 2013-2014 campaign, which ended in a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Final.
Among the Hall of Famers to don the Rangers sweater are Andy Bathgate, Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito, and Wayne Gretzky. Nine players have had their number retired by the team: Bathgate, Ed Giacomin, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Harry Howell, Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, and Mike Richter. Herb Brooks (1937-2003), who coached the Rangers from 1981-1985, also coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team to its "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union and on to a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

I really enjoyed going to the venture for the first time.
This was our first time watching an event at MSG and overall it was a positive experience. MSG was very accessible and the atmosphere and energy of the local fans added to excitement. Our seats in section 212 were not too high and offered a good view of the play on the ice.
Nice to see MSG in person Got to see a good game and Connor McDavid
Had a very good seat with food and beverage service. The Garden is a fantastic arena. The game, the show, shopping for merchandise, food and beverage options and the whole atmosphere the Rangers fans create made it a very special and unforgettable evening.
Game was good, glad Sen's won although couldn't really show too much emotion as we were surrounded by dozens of drunk Ranger's fans. Really just bought tickets because I wanted to take my wife and daughter to iconic MSG as they had never been before. The rink didn't disappoint, although the price of the tickets (nosebleeds) were still way too much to even justify my reasoning. Luckily I'm not a logical man!
Took in the Rangers Flyers 2nd game of the series. For a play off game it did not feel as electric as I expected. Although very vocal the fans tended to yell more at each other than anything that was happening on the ice. When they were yelling the language boarded on vulgar. MSG is a newly renovated building and looks great. Although I was only 6th in line at a concession during intermission i did not get anything before the start of the period. service is very slow.
This was a good matchup of two original six teams and the venue is great!
22 years after my first and only NHL game at MSG I had the unexpected opportunity to attend another Rangers game in New York City. I booked my trip from Europe to NYC during the NHL lockout and all my hopes to watch a Rangers game had been vanished. But just a few days before my departure the lockout ended and I was able to get a ticket on ticketmaster.ca I had to pick up the tkt at the will call window at MSG prior to the game. This was easy, although I would have preferred to receive the tkt via email shortly after purchasing it. MSG seemed to me in very good shape, seats seemed to be new and were very comfortable. The variety of drinks was excellent. I couldn't find pizza, so I had a hot dog with my beer. The hot dog was good but nothing special. Prices of course are high, but as I am not sure when I will be able to watch my next NHL game I didn't care. The staff at the MSG shops was very friendly and helpful, e.g. they changed an item purchased before without any problems and they tried their best to find me another item I wanted to buy in my size. Overall it has been a great evening and I really to hope to get another chance in the future to see another Rangers game at Madison Square Garden.
Great game. Lots of action. Take in a Rangers game if you can
