Wine and Words was fun and informative

by Anonymous on 2017-07-18Cumberland-Trim Park & Ride - Orléans

firstly, I did not know we had wineries in this area so that was great to hear. the guides on the bus were helpful and had lots of information about our outing as well as other Ottawa 2017 events. if you like wine you will enjoy this event greatly. each winery was different and the people friendly and informative. the only negative comment would be it was expensive as I could not resist purchasing some of the great wines I was able to sample!!!!

What a wonderful experience. The stops were amazing with nice personal touches at each winery. Our host was pleasant and attentive. Excellent planning with the weather! Please make this an annual event. Nice to see what our area offers that I might not have experienced without this opportunity.

    A great picnic

by RickGee on 2017-07-05Royal Alexandra Interprovincial Bridge - Ottawa

Thank you to the Canada 150 team for putting on this great event. We were greeted by great hosts and with big smiles by your extended team of volunteers. We received lovely gifts, I love the BBQ apron, nice touch. We gladly completed a survey (a lovely young lady came by to capture our knowledge and input on the Canada 150 events). The only negative was you had security at the front gate from a woman (commissionaire) who was rather rude and quite abrasive with people (I even consoled another family who was taken aback by her behavior), it was uncalled for and very unprofessional, HOWEVER, we did not let her bring us down when it came to our fun. We embraced a downpour of rain, our buns were soaked, we were soaked but it did not dampen our spirits, the sun came out, we enjoyed our lovely pic-nic and made due with what mother nature had to offer. All in all, a 10 out of 10 on the event.

    The picnic was thoroughly enjoyable

by Anonymous on 2017-07-05Royal Alexandra Interprovincial Bridge - Ottawa

The lineup went quickly and it was easy to find our space. Unfortunately overnight rain had made the grass damp and dirty so the picnic blanket that was provided came in handy. Our time allotment ended just in time before the rain came

    A bust

by Splat on 2017-06-21Morguard Parking Space - Ottawa

A waste of $70 for two. Sat around (I actually got a seat). enduring pounding rap music for an hour (the event opened late) observing a few folks buying food from some vendors. Nothing was passed around in the time I was there, nor was there any guarantee that we folks in the regular section would get any samples. Got hungry and went to McDonalds. Didn't want to waste the evening as well as the entry fee.

    disappointing and poorly managed

by jor19 on 2017-06-20Morguard Parking Space - Ottawa

This was advertised as a fusion of food and music. There was good music, but there was barely any food from the advertised chefs to go around. What few samples that did go around were poorly distributed allowing some people to get multiple samples of the same dish while others got none. There were VIP tickets available on Groupon for just $5 more than the standard ticket price where guests were given most of the food samples. The two tiered system and pretty much having to beg for food made the event feel like a social experiment. This was a very disappointing event.

This event was not so wonderful. Music was not for my age group. Food was sub-par. There was not enough organization of the food for all to access. Overall I was not happy I had bought these tickets and will not purchase next year if the event is the same. Would have liked more interaction with the chefs. Would have liked to have seating for all. Have people seated and samples come to the people instead of having a big rush to the samples. Music should be a variety of genres.... not only one band...

Chef Fest was a disorganized mess

by DavidBer on 2017-06-19Morguard Parking Space - Ottawa

I was so disappointed with Chef Fest. It could have been an interesting event if it wasn't so disorganized. First off, our tickets had seat numbers on them, just to find out that it is general admission and there was just a few picnic tables to sit at which of course were all taken by the time I got inside the venue....an event that is supposed to be from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m it is unbelievable that there is no where to sit during that time. The first chef did not come on until after 7:00 p.m., and at that time they announced that there are only 800 samples, so when you see the costumed people coming with samples you had better grab one. That is ridiculous, we could not even get close to the people handing out samples, and needless to say I never got a sample of anything....and to add insult to injury, it turns out I imagine because this event was not promoted very well, the VIP tickets were sold on Groupon, so the people who got to sit in the VIP section, I assume they got samples, paid the exact same amount as I did.....I ended up leaving and going somewhere else to eat....what a waste of money!

The event did not provide enough samples to people attending and paying for the event.

I am sad to say the event was terrible. I brought my family to celebrate Canada 150 and we all agree that the event was two thumbs down. We arrived at 5:15 and by 8 we had only had one ice cream sample. The crowd was forced to fight for samples which were served 20 pieces at a time. This event needs a very different set up for it to be successful in the future. We had to leave after 8pm because we were starving and ended up spending more money on dinner. Sad to think we spent $150 for a Canada 150 event that was such a disappointment.

Great Concept. Needs a little refining

by Nasacutie on 2017-06-18Morguard Parking Space - Ottawa

Great environment and the food we tried was good. The chefs needed to interact more with the audience a bit more and there needed to be more samples for more people as a lot of people left after the first chef. The DJs were pretty awesome and a great set of volunteers and performers.

    Amazing Meal!

by Catharine on 2017-05-29Quai des Artistes - Gatineau

Food was wonderful but a few service glitches. Wine selection pretty dismal for the quality of the food. Seating crowded and moving between floors to retrieve courses probably not the best idea especially with buffet stations backing the line up the stairs. Commentary could have used an edit - pretty sure no-one needed to hear the regulations on raising dogs for food in Canada. A general sense of disorganization in the administration - email with important information sent the day of the event, registration did not arrive or get set up until after guests were told to arrive, late departure after stern warnings that boat would leave right at 6. Generally, a pretty ambitious undertaking that worked well.

    Not worth the time

by Gsing2001 on 2017-05-29Quai des Artistes - Gatineau

The cruise was terrible! It travelled extremely slow and seating was very crowded. Only 2 free drinks with cruise. The comic/MC was horrible. He made inappropriate and often disgusting comments while guests were eating, such as reference to dog and horse meat, and dumpsters. The food was ok, however, nothing really special. We ate salad with dried crickets and other dishes with food items that were or are illegal somewhere in the world, such as leeks.

overprice and lack of information and cheap food

    by mitch222 on 2017-04-11Horticulture Building - Ottawa

This was really bad. First their was no website that you can get information on when to be there, we got there at 4.00 and told to go away till 5.00pm, The axe throw was cool but only one set up and over 300 people. First course was good but went down hill after that. The worst was the beans............not sure how anyone can screw up on beans. The cost was over price for what we got, I guess it is all about profit, but that is normal for 2017 events which is only for those with money

    Fun times

by Maplelover on 2017-04-11Horticulture Building - Ottawa

Sugar Lumberfest was a fun family activity. I would recommend more activities so the wait wasn't so long. The food was delicious. More vegan friendly options would be nice. Also a dessert included with the meal instead of having to pay for it is definitely recommended.
