First played as the ReliaQuest Bowl in 2023, the yearly matchup began as the Hall of Fame Bowl when Birmingham, Alabama’s Hall of Fame Classic moved to Tampa in 1986. Between 1996 and 2022, the ReliaQuest Bowl was called the Outback Bowl. The ReliaQuest Bowl was historically one of the earliest games to kick off every New Year’s Day until the 2024 season, when the bowl game was held in December for the first time since its inaugural 1986 edition. Starting in 1995, the ReliaQuest Bowl has pitted teams from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Big Ten Conference. In 2025, the ReliaQuest Bowl game will kick off on December 31 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
