I saw Rob Zombie last time he was here at the Air Canada Centre. Hands down the best show I'd ever seen. Knowing that this was a much smaller venue, I was curious what he would do. While there were no pyrotechnics, there was LOTS of video, between the projector behind and the videotron, it made for some awesome visuals.
The band was amazingly tight, I don't think a single note was missed. John 5 is a guitar god. The only person who was a little "off" was Rob Zombie himself, but that's only because he's running around the whole time and I'm sure he runs out of breath.
The 2 opening bands were also very good. Rockabilly seems to be a new trend and a welcome one at that. Captain Clegg looked and sounded great. The stand-up bass and steel guitar makes some great sound. Nekromantix was also very good, a little more on the punk side, but still rockabilly (psychobilly?) at heart. The 3 piece band sounded big. The female drummer tore it up with some fast beats, but never missed a step.
All in all, it was a great rock show at a small venue, and Rob was able to keep the show as big as possible. Can't wait for the CD and the next tour.
