  • the robert cray band were wonderful

by alexthegreat on 2010-10-11River Rock Casino Resort - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I was expecting a good concert but the band far exceeded my expectations. The band are very tight in support of RC, and his guitar playing was out of this world. He was also in fine voice. I will go and see him as often as I can.

  • Robert Cray's, Robert Cray!

by kingscrib on 2010-10-11River Rock Casino Resort - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

This was both our first time at River Rock, and also the first time seeing Robert Cray 'live'. Where the River Rock Casino Resort is concerned, we loved it! Met some friendly and extremely helpful staff, had a delicious dinner in Tramonte pre-show, and capped it off with Robert Cray. Geat day despite the weather! We've been fans of Robert Cray since hearing him on KISS FM in Bellingham in the 80s. We've seen him in various DVDs live, either on his own or guesting with other artists. He is exactly as you hear on cd, whatever music device on which you play your music. So Rob liked it for his guitarwork and I liked it for the songs (& the guitar!). What more can you ask of an artist? Robert Cray is laid back in both his approach and delivery. His sound is unique unto himself, so he creates his own atmosphere. He's approachable and likes to get off on the audience's vibe. The show was maybe a little too short, a laid back less than 2 hrs.

  • Robert Cray does not disappoint

by JeffG on 2010-10-11River Rock Casino Resort - RichmondRating: 3 out of 5

For the 3rd time this year, I had the pleasure of listening to Robert Cray and his band Saturday night. Robert Cray never disappoints. His quartet is rock solid, tight, and yet personable. His song choices are inspired by the audience and changed with Robert's read of the crowd. When folks got up to dance his switched from performance pieces to more dance-able music. The "funkier" Robert got the more the crowd seemed to like him. At that said, I probably won't go to another Robert Cray concert for some time. His repertoire seems the same as it was both other times I've seen him. Not necessarily the precise songs but the manner of the delivery and the orchestrations. And it is all Robert. I would have liked him to feature some of his side men in some of the songs. His guitar playing is inspired and unique but there is more to music than just guitar. It's my fault for seeing Robert so many times in the space of 18 months. He can not be expected to be unique every time he tours. But for me to go back, he will have to change something so that there is some difference.

  • Great Show...

by BeeCee on 2010-10-09Arden Theatre - St AlbertRating: 4 out of 5

As expected, Robert Cray and his band put on a great show, at times interacting with the audience and each other, showing that they still have fun performing together. The only downside to the night was that, since there was no opening act, it ended a lot earlier, so the performance seemed like it was cut short. Needless to say, he was on stage for approx. 1 hour and 45 minutes, so it was just one's perception. I'd definitely see him again, regardless, but I'd probably go out for dinner first so that the night seemed full.

Awesome to see such a stellar artist in such an intimate setting.

  • Great Band, Great Venue

by TastyTunage on 2010-10-05The Garrick Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Solid performance from a journeyman. Robert Cray was quite engaging and the whole band seemed to really be enjoying themselves, which got the crowd going.

  • The Robert Cray Band are well worth seeing.

by JWCH on 2010-10-05The Garrick Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

The Robert Cray Band were really good. The sound was amasing. Very simple lighting rig, but effective. The seating at thr Garrick Center is terrible. I won't go back to this venue until they replace the seats. The Burton Cummings Theatre would have been a better venue for this show. JWCH

  • Terrible

    by DavidB1 on 2010-10-05The Garrick Centre - WinnipegRating: 1 out of 5

Tickets said show started at 7pm but actually doors opened at 7 and the show started at 8 (a waste of time). The sound management was atrocious. All of the instruments were way too loud. We tried ear plugs just to endure the first few songs, but they only worked if you plugged your ears at the same time. We left after 30 minutes - we had headaches when we got home. This was a very expensive evening of discomfort.

  • Passionate virtuosity

by Blueman on 2010-10-05The Garrick Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

A friend reccommended Robert Cray and I'm glad he did. The man is amazing! He sings with passion, soul and plays his guitar like a man possessed. He gave full value for money in his 90-minute concert, exchanging occasional banter with his band and the audience. His voice is warm, supple, high, deep and always soulful! Great lyrics and infinitely inventive leads and rhythms. His long fingers flew all over the neck of his Strat as if the strings were on fire. His guitar playing was sublte and soft when it needed to be, or driving and complex. Lots of jazz chords and classic blues riffs! He is truly a blues master.

  • Good Show

Thoroughly enjoyed the Robert Cray Band. Thought it could have been just a bit longer though. The real bluesy mellow numbers are my favourite and he does them so well!
