    Disappointed

by Calgarygirl on 2022-12-01Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I had such high hopes for this show, as I really love Rupi Kaur's books. However, I was left very disappointed with my overall experience. The show did not start on time and the show was very disjointed. The show also left an incredibly bad taste in my mouth in regards to the overall experience for men during that show. Of course much Rupi's work is about feminism and impacts of the patriarchy, which is one reason I love her. However, Rupi failed to acknowledge that many men, including the men at the show are allies, who also working hard at breaking the patriarchy and are fully supportive of women's rights.

I had a great experience and enjoyed the show very much.

by Ash on 2022-12-01Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Rupi was amazing! I was annoyed by how many people entered the theatre late and disrupted the show. I believe doors to the show should close to avoid disruption.

    Disappointing.

by TA on 2022-11-28Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Show started 30 min late. Rupi suggested she's not at all interested in giving best show possible "I don’t have to be perfect" after flubbing. House not contained: people coming and going at all times, blocking view while getting up/down; phones on encouraged which was distracting (lights). I felt like asking for my money back and returning the books.

    Intimate event

by Jill on 2022-11-24Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Rupi brought a profoundly moving collection of words that explored a young woman's point of view, the fine line between the visceral and the emotional, the social and the personal. I was deeply moved by the poets reflections on family, love-sex, and implicit joy and pain in daily subtleties.

    Grateful

by Feminist, father on 2022-11-24Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I have been to lots of poetry events and I was excited to take my daughter for her first one. I want her experience to be positive, but instead she walked away inspired and empowered. This is absolutely the best performance spoken word poetry I have watched and I am grateful I got to experience it with my daughter.

    Rupi was great

by D on 2022-11-24Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Rupi and her opening act were brilliant. We were on the main floor left....there was lots of chatter behind the scenes somewhere in the distance which was most distracting and obtrusive to the mood of the event. There were more loud voices near the end of the evening which again took away from the heartfelt readi gs and conversation Rupi was engaging in for the audience.

    An incredible performance

by Dee on 2022-11-24Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Rupi is funny, intelligent, and REAL! That was such a breath of fresh air to connect with someone who just “gets it”. What I didn’t like was that her opening act started late, came out for one poem and then they took a 10 minute break. What did she need a break from? Other than that, Rupi is amazing!

I love Rupi so much! She is so wonderful and relatable. She really puts a feel to her poems and the meanings are much more easy to understand in person. I love that she gives background on her poems. Also her outfit was on point!!

This was my first time seeing Rupi live and she was absolutely beautiful, amazing, and wonderful. she really engages with her audience which makes it feel more personal and intimate even though it was a packed house. 10/10. I would absolutely see her read her poetry and cry in a room full of strangers again.

    Words can’t describe it

by Gemma on 2022-05-06National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I think everyone should experience Rupi Kaur's work at least once. The vulnerable topics she shares in her poetry are so real, important, and relatable for so many. She has a way of making you feel the emotions in her words and the sense of community she creates is so important, especially for those who may not have the voice or have not yet found the courage to share their own similar experiences. So empowering.
