About

Long before "Brave" hit the charts in 2013 and became her signature tune alongside the 2007 smash "Love Song," California-based singer songwriter Sara Bareilles's music embodied the word. Finding strength in vulnerability as well as her stomping, striding piano lines, the self-taught musician has made her name exploring the complexity of love and attraction with unflinching honesty and incredibly catchy hooks. Her style is pop in almost the classical sense of the word, with songs that directly relate with ticket buyers no matter what they are predisposed to like, as she shown on tours with the likes of Counting Crows, Maroon 5, and Sugarland. All of that touring paid off on her third full-length studio album, The Blessed Unrest, which debuted at #2 in the spring of 2013, right behind Jay Z. She showed herself to be in total command of the studio, as displayed in the anthemic "Brave," which she co-wrote with Jack Antonoff of the band Fun. But while she flourishes with layers of sound or fronting a rollicking band, Bareilles is just as powerful sitting at a piano by herself, which she proved with the October 2013 solo concert DVD and album, Brave Enough: Live at the Variety. Whatever the setting, her authenticity and ability to musically reveal her own truth cannot be denied.

And that is how you do it!

by Siocat on 2011-04-20Koessler Athletic Center At Canisius College - Buffalo

Sara Bareilles and her band really know how to rock the house. It's this kind of showmanship and genuine musical know how that I appreciate in a performer. A true craftsperson from start to finish she belted it out (if possible) better than the album. Bravo!

    sara is amazing!!!

by iLovePiNK on 2011-01-20The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

sara summed up in one word AMAZING!!! she is funny and personable with her crowd, as well as being a true artist, her voicals in person gave me goose bumps! wow her and the band were energenic and very entertaining i would definately recommend a concert of hers anytime!! i didn't completely love the phoenix venue although i was extremely close to the stag, just seemed like there were too many people all crammed in there, and standing for the whole show also sucked, i don't mind getting up to dance to a song or two but standing through out was a little rough, id advise a good pair of shoes. plus when we arrived there was a line out and around the building that we had to wait in for about a half hour and we were even late getting there. but the club was very organized with checking in and coat check and such ill give them that

Performance Was Great / Too Bad About The Sound

by mediabrain on 2010-11-28Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Sara was in top vocal form and very playful as she was interacting with Cary Brothers and Holly Conlan. Unfortunately I was spoiled after seeing Sara's previous appearance at The Vogue where both the performance and the audio were outstanding. Unfortunately no matter where I stood in The Commodore the audio quality was poor. I've been to numerous events at The Commodore and I know it is possible to have great audio in that venue. It was very disappointing to see Sara giving it her all (5 stars) and to have such muddy audio (1 star). Sara, please replace the front of house audio crew for your next tour!!!

Absolutely fun night! Sara fed off the energy given by the audience, and everybody was singing and clapping along. Definitely want to watch her live again in a similar setting.

The intimate setting mixed with the great audience vibe made this show a great one. Sara's onstage presence mixed with her warm, friendly and funny interaction with concert goers made you a part of it. Everyone was singing along through laughter and tears. See her in your city.

by Mibs on 2010-11-11The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

She's so amazing: her talent, her candid frankness and sense of humour with the audience make her so endearing. Llove her and the vast army of people that support her. My enthusiasm level for an artist is the highest its been since Billy Joel!

    Not worth it

by Sigh on 2010-11-10The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Overall I thought this event was poorly done. It was over an hour late and they made us wait outside in the cold. Once we got in, the opening bands took a half hour to come on stage. There was no seating at the venue so we had to stand. It seemed like the energy of the crowd really got to the bands' egos. I felt totally disconnected from the artists - like they were talking to themselves and not the audience. The sound was horrible. I have been to many concerts and none have been as loud as this one. It was so loud that I had to leave because my ears were hurting and the vibration made my friend feel sick. It sounded like she was shouting over the instruments. It seemed like a sound check wasn't done. Her music sounds great on the radio, but I would never see her live again. It will take a while before I can enjoy her music again, if ever.

SARA BAREILLES PUTS ON THE BEST CONCERT EVER!

by saraisthebest on 2010-11-10The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Sara was so great! Her voice live is incredible, and she has such a great stage presence. She's also hilarious. But the live music, seeing her in person, just makes all her songs so much more real and emotional. It was an unforgettable concert that's for sure. I would definitely recommended that everyone see her live!!

This show was amazing. Sara natural stage presence and interactions with the crowd were wonderful, and she is n amazing live performer. Her voice is flawless, and quite simply impressive, and it was a lot of fun the whole time. She really is a funny person, and she even came out later that evening to meet fans who were waiting outside! She is absolutely brilliant!

    The Soundman should be fired

by SaraFan on 2010-11-10The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

The sound man sucked. He turned up the sub-bass so loud that that it was physically uncomfortable and sonically unpleasant for such a musical act. Too bad because Sara Bareilles and her band was on their game that night.

This girl is absolutely amazing! She has some kind of magic in her live performances that is just impossible to capture on any audio recording device. The first time I saw her, I only bought tickets cause they were $20 and i loved the song 'Love Song.' I actually was on the way to the concert regretting getting tickets, but the minute she came out and started singing I was blown away by pure talent. She's a rarity in todays pop music culture-writes her own music, plays the keys with some serious skill and this girl has a voice that is just UNBELIEVABLE. If your on the fence about seeing her, I definately recommend getting a ticket and going. Shes really sweet, and hilarious and puts on a great show! you will not regret going to see her, and of all the acts currently in the industry, I would rate her #1 young pop act that you NEED to see live.

    Sara Bareilles rocked the Phoenix!

by tlintoronto on 2010-11-10The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Having seen Sara perform before I was expecting a good concert but what Sara et all provides was an excellent show. Everything from her opening bands, to her self-depricating humour, to her acoustic numbers were well thought out, timed and smooth. She's gained a confidence in the past three years - that just tells her audience that she's comfortable on stage, with herself and proud of her music. The audience lapped it up hungrily, singing along to many of the songs, clapping and 'whoo-hoo'ing' on cue and generally keeping the energy levels high. A great night and I'm all ready looking forward to her return to Toronto.

Sara's music is delightful, she has such an amazing voice and is a very talented singer/songwriter. What really impressed me was the ease at which she interacted with the audience- she seemed genuinely delighted to be performing, was funny, warm and wonderful. She's the kind of person you'd want as a friend, very down to earth, and doesn't take herself too seriously. I'm an even bigger fan after seeing her in person!
