    samba-hip hop-capoeira fusion - Sergio Mendez

    by adaggio on 2010-08-08River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

    The River Rock theatre does not have a bad set in the house. That notwithstanding, i was thrilled to be in the second row from the front. The well tuned band, the singers, and the audience created an epic energy, young and old, we were all in a good mood ! The music carried everyone away ... the voices carried .... and there was a lot of toe tapping. Tight, rhythms that chanced rhythms - tight percussion - Sergio Mendez can do anything. And ... we can be sure that he will entertain and transport us to Brazil - sunny and lively and ever musical Brazil .....

    The Concert was too short!

    by Petrohead on 2010-08-08River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

    Sergio Mendes is one of the greatest musicians in the world today. He is truly a legend! I've been waiting for him to come to Vancouver to perform for nearly twenty years. The concert was excellent in every way and he never let us down for one bit. Except it only lasted one hour and 10 minutes, and this is the major disappointment. I have seen his concert twice back in 1975 and 1976 and both time it lasted over 2 hours. Since it was a very rare chance for him to perform at this part of the world I would have paid more for my ticket to see him perform a full concert. Too bad this time it seemed to me that we got kicked out at half time. Still, I won't hesitate to see him again if he decides to return.

    using a rapper did not harmonize with sergio's music at all; in fact, the rapper was obnoxious; the best music was when it featured the band only;

    one of the best of all times

    by manfredito on 2010-08-08River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

    i had to take my hearing aid out, when the band started playing. the loudspeaker setting in the river rock theater unfortunately was not the best. it was simply too loud! but, sergio and his band made up for it, his unforgettable songs, his music, his inspiration to the music world of today! i would have loved to hear a little bit more, one hour fifteen was short. thanks for the show, sergio!

    Vancouver, just another stop. 1 hr 20 min concert?

    by Karl22 on 2010-08-08River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

    Too bad Sergio stopped trying. From as far back as Brazi 66, I remember him fondly. But 1 hr 20 min, and it was all over. Maybe 12 songs? You have to be kidding me. Secondly, this is a Brazilian concert, where is the color, showmanship, personality? A tame show. I think a makeover is due. Two thirds of their music is good, the main drummer is excellent, Sergio's playing is negligible but I guess he's an arranger, the two lead singers are ok. Nobody put themselves out there, nobody really performed or entertained. They did what they had to do and called it an evening. H2O the rapper, - he's good but what's does he have to do with anything? Brazil, samba, it's all strong enough to stand on it's own w/o rap, just put your hearts into it. $75 a seat, - and that's all we got. Sergio you're living on your past accomplishments and that's not enough.
