Liam McCay, known by his stage name sign crushes motorist, is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Buncrana, County Donegal, Ireland. He is the creative force behind several music projects, including Take Care, Birth Day, Make His Ribs Show, Manta, Hold, Miserable Teens Club, Roaming, Death Trap, and Moon Water, among others. McCay's primary project, sign crushes motorist, is a slowcore/lo-fi indie rock act heavily influenced by the 1990s San Jose band Duster, whose song "Sign Crushes Motorist" inspired the project's name. His deeply personal and introspective lyrics often explore themes of teenage angst, loneliness and mental health struggles. His sign crushes motorist albums I'll Be Ok (2022) and Hurting (2023) have been well-received, with the latter being released on vinyl, cassette and digital formats by several independent labels.
