These Kids Wear Crowns - this band played the shortest set. They got the crowd jumping and excited by sending their own excitement pulsing through the audience. I don't know how these guys jump like mad men and still sing their songs with great tune. However amazing they were at performing, they were probably the least exciting. They are still a fairly new band, so maybe they're still just getting the hang of things. 3/5
All Time Low - this band played a little longer than TKWC. They were crazy. I can't emphasize that enough. The guitarist paid much attention to fans, doing everything from humping the air, going down amongst the fans, letting a fan hold his guitar (and having trouble getting it back), and standing on top of an amp. They were the second most exciting. I didn't know who they were before this, but I will definitely remember them now. 4/5
Marianas Trench - this band is the reason I bought my ticket, and it was apparent why as soon as their props were being set up. Their crew (dressed in masks to go along with their toy fantasy story theme) pushed out letter blocks (with 'E', 'A', 'M', and 'T' standing for "Ever", "After", "Marianas", and "Trench" on them). After all those props were out, the crew rolled out a jack in the box. The crew hit the handle to make it spin (or look like they made it spin) and the lights went down. The story of "Ever After" was narrated in a dark, low voice. After the story stopped, Josh Ramsay (the lead singer) came out of the Jack in the box, singing the title track "Ever After" in beautiful harmony. After the first verse or so, Matt, Mike, and Ian (guitarist, bassist, drummer) joined in with him, Matt and Mike standing on letter blocks 'E' and 'A'. They played quite a few songs, getting the crowd super wild. Throughout the performance, they had more narrations told. They were dressed in costume, Josh with sparkling hair and a white military-style coat -- though changing slightly throughout the show -- the others in matching soldier outfits. They were as close to flawless as one can get without being a tour headliner. The only thing I would have changed would be for them to have played more of their new songs, and not combine the old ones. That being said, still definitely the show stoppers that night. 5/5
Simple Plan - I was impressed. I haven't listened to Simple Plan in years; and in fact I used to be quite the fan. They were pretty catchy, combining new and old songs, which was a good move for them, since they have so many older songs that are huge hits. The best part of their performance was when they had beach balls released from the ceiling. They really had the crowd dancing. After Marianas Trench, I left the front row, and watched from behind the wheelchair accessible spots. It made me cry a little to see physically disabled dancing away by use of their arms. They were pretty good, but there was nothing special -- though they have stuck to their ways over the years, so they don't need to change, because their thing is exactly what they did. Unfortunately for people who aren't fans, it just seems generic. They were the second least exciting. 3.5/5
Unbiasedly, Marianas Trench did the best performance, hands down. If they weren't the best, they would still have been my favourite personally, because that is who I enjoy to see, but for the sake of the review I would be honest. I have criticized them before. But, they were honestly the best performance. Go see for yourself, you will not regret it. You will enjoy all the bands.
