About

Slaughter Beach, Dog on Tour

Led by former Modern Baseball member Jake Ewald, Slaughter Beach, Dog is impacting lives and inspiring budding songwriters with their story-filled tunes about everyday life.

Initially, Slaughter Beach, Dog (SBD) was Ewald's side project, and the first release was a solo endeavor, Dawg, in 2014. When Modern Baseball went on hiatus in 2017, Ewald partnered with former Modern Baseball member Ian Farmer to release the EP Motorcycle.jpg.

The band expanded and released Birdie in 2017. Their next album, Safe and Also No Fear, landed in 2019, and the band went on their first nationwide tour. Ewald is a prolific writer, and in December 2020, their fourth studio album, At The Moonbase, was released. Unfortunately, due to the COVID pandemic, Ewald ended up recording the entire album alone.

Their 2022 album, Live At The Cabin, features the hit single "Acolyte."

During an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on reddit, Ewald said, "I am constantly pinching myself over the fact that people care enough to listen to my music in any capacity, Modern Baseball, SBD, or otherwise... I'm a true lucky freak." And you'd be "a true lucky freak" to score tickets to a Slaughter Beach, Dog show. They go fast!

Slaughter Beach, Dog Live in Concert

The members of Slaughter Beach, Dog are Jake Ewald (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Ian Farmer (bass, keyboards, backing vocals), Adam Meisterhans (guitar), Zack Robbins (drums, percussion, backing vocals), and Charlotte Dole (drums).

Founded in 2014 by Ewald, SBD was initially meant to be a solo project.

The band is named after a town in Delaware called Slaughter Beach. When Ewald discovered that there was already a band in Europe called Slaughter Beach, he added a comma and the word "Dog" so there'd be no confusion.

While Ewald lists several musical influences, including Neil Young, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Lucinda Williams, and The Rolling Stones, he says he's most heavily influenced by memories and the books he's read. In an interview with Atwood Magazine Ewald says, "I love reading, and I really can't write a book. This is the closest I get. It usually starts with one of my own memories or a twisted version of one of my own memories. Then I'll do whatever I can to turn that memory into something."

In a reddit AMA, Ewald was asked what his favorite movies are -- his answer was "A tie between Monsters Inc and It's a Wonderful Life." That's a perfect indicator of what you'll get from the music of Slaughter Beach, Dog -- happy, fun, thoughtful, and meaningful tunes.
