The Show Had Some Serious Flaws

by ABoy on 2016-04-12The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

It was great to see clips from the various Star Trek seasons and movies but it took away from the music especially when the clips included a lot of dialogue. It would have been nice to hear more of the music from the series. It was the reason I bought the tickets. There was also a more shortened version of the theme songs from the different series and that was disappointing.

    Good for another 50 years

by boomer44 on 2016-04-12The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

The ST universe is vast and timeless but it all came together magnificently for 2 hours of sonic ST playground. One forgets why you are drawn to it until you see something like this show. I have my ST fix. I am content once more.

Star Trek in Concert was a wonderful experience

by Sharkdog99 on 2016-03-07National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Hearing iconic Star Trek themes from all the series and movies, right from the original series through the alternate universe Star Trek rebooted in 2009, with the very sharp, very bright images from those series on screen behind a live orchestra is an amazing experience that you need to treat yourself to. Highly recommended for Trekkies, Trekkers or anyone that enjoys Star Trek at all. If you LOVE Star Trek, bring Kleenex, moving performance. Lol. Hoodies, shirts, CDs of the concert music and tour books were on sale so bring some extra money.

All your favourite Star Trek themes

by Mike42 on 2016-03-02National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This tribute to the music of Star Trek featured selections from all the TV incarnations and also music from the films. The stage was set up to resemble the Enterprise, with lighting effects that emphasized certain passages. A large screen at the back of the stage displayed Star Trek scenes as the orchestra played along. The coordination of the live music with the video was most impressive. Narration in the video by Michael Dorn (Worf in Star Trek: The Next Generation) provided some context for the musical selections, but little in the way of interpretation or history or connections between the works of the various composers who worked on Trek. Also, because the timing was so precise, there was no room for the usual spontaneity of a live performance. I didn't buy the souvenir program, so I can only speculate that it gave some background and explanation of the various pieces.

Star Trek great blend of media

by wbp11 on 2016-03-02National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Highly recommended. A skilful blend of live orchestral music and audio visual elements. It was great to hear the Star Trek scores and be able to watch the combinations of instruments required to produce them. Nice choice of Star Trek highlights, old and new, served as a tour down memory lane.

    Waste of an evening

by SpockToo on 2016-03-02National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Save your money. They don't even use a quarter of an orchestra for this. The instruments are amplified and they sound terrible. Most of the time they are drowned out by the dialog on the screen.
