A fine concert featuring a true Canadian virtuoso
by Al on 2022-07-12National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaThis inexpensive concert, led by a young Canadian conductor originally from Sri Lanka, was a great way to spend a summer evening. Orchestra and conductor were both up to the usual high HACO standards. Pianist Stewart Goodyear's bravura performance of the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto brought a long and well-deseved standing ovation from the fairly small audience. The concert was only about an hour long. I would have preferred hearing all of the first piece, not just its first movement, which would still have left the no-intermission concert under ninety minutes.
