ABOUT TAYLOR SWIFT

She is, quite simply, a global superstar.

Taylor Swift is a seven-time GRAMMY winner, and the youngest recipient in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. She is the only female artist in music history (and just the fourth artist ever) to twice have an album hit the 1 million first-week sales figure (2010’s Speak Now and 2012’s RED). She’s a household name whose insanely catchy yet deeply personal self-penned songs transcend music genres, and a savvy businesswoman who has built a childhood dream into an empire.

But the numbers don’t tell Taylor's story half as well as she could. After all, it’s the intangibles that elevate Swift into the stratosphere of our pop culture planet, allowing the 24-year old singer-songwriter to orbit in a more rarified air. Her large-scale charitable contributions are one thing, but it’s in the small gestures – the notes of compassion she posts on the Instagram photos of lovelorn fans, the genuine hugs she distributes without discretion – where Swift proves time and time again that platinum-selling, record-setting success has not changed her inherent nature. She is awkwardly honest and powerfully empathetic; a brazen superfan, loyal friend, fierce protector of hearts; and one of the world’s greatest ambassadors for the power of just being yourself.

Granted, for Taylor, “being herself” tends towards shimmering, gossamer perfection – but that’s an image regularly blown whenever she dons fake braces and a tri-pony to clown around on late night TV. She’s the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 with three consecutive studio albums, and while she’s been named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, she’s probably the only person on that list who uses social media to post notes to her best friends and videos of her cats.

As Billboard’s only artist to receive this nod twice and youngest-ever Woman of the Year prepares to release her fifth album, 1989, she finds herself, as always, in the glare of a blinding spotlight of expectation – but if you think that scares her, you haven’t been paying attention. She calls 1989 her most sonically cohesive collection, and armed with a multiple-week international No. 1 debut single, “Shake It Off,” she’s ready to blaze into the next phase of her still-young career, where she’ll continue to dance like no one’s watching, write like she stole our collective diary, and inevitably soar to ever-greater heights. All that’s left to wonder is how many more lives she’ll lift in the process.

What a great concert! Right from start to finish! Gloriana was fantastic, Kellie Pickler was even better than I thought she was and put on a great show and Taylor Swift just blew everyone away! Probably the best concert I've been to...period. Awesome band, great stage and got the crowd pumped and standing from note one.

Not the best concert I've been to

by NNCR on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

The concert was good, but not great. Taylor spent too much time listening to the crowd cheer and bashing boys. I enjoy listening to her sing, but not the rest of it. We get it, you write songs about boys that have broken your heart. It's getting old. It was an entertaining show, but I don't think I'd pay to see her again.

Taylor Swift is an amazing performer and person. Her stage presents is spectacular, and yet she is so humble. She was truly moved but the crowds 5 min applause, and this was only half way throught the show. Afterward, back stage, she thanked us for coming to see her! A very amazing show and a very amazing person!

My husband & I took our 2 daughters ages 8 & 10 to the concert. They LOVE YOU TAYLOR SWIFT!!! I must say I was suitably impressed with the show for an entertainer of such a young age. The show was very creative & captivating. Taylor's stage energy was entertaining & her musicality was awesome. I would certainly recommend anyone to see the show!

Swift was one of the best!

by Hockeylover on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

I have been to many many concerts from Tina Turner, to Madonna, to Tim McGraw and thought that Taylor Swift's performance last night at the Calgary Saddledome was one of the best I've ever seen. She not only sang with emotion, but her stage show, which I thought to be somewhat theatrical, was a wonderful display of entertainment and of her artistic talents. She seems genuinely humbled by the applause of the audience. I would recommend for anyone to see her Fearless tour. (and for the record and the reviews of the Calgary Herald, I am over 40 years of age)

    Taylor Swift was ok.

by fortam on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

I found that although Taylor Swift is a fantastic singer and entertainer, I found that the concert was a little drawn out. There were alot of delays in the show and she talked too much. It was more of a play than a concert. She's a fantastic opening act, but I don't think she's hit the "Headliner" status as of yet. I was disappointed that she didn't sing with Kelly Pickler.

TAYLOR SWIFT WAS THE BEST CONCERT I'VE EVER BEEN 2

by Nickaroo on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Wow, it was so good. She made sure she included everyone by doing a costume change then ending up at the back of the saddledome, and walked down the isle - I was like 2 inches away from her. Then she went down to the ground and sat on a mini revolving stage - that was cool. I love the set design, and all the costume changes. I was never bored, and this concert kept me wanting more. The two opening acts, Kellie Pickler and Gloriana were very good! I've never heard of Gloriana, but I love them and now I want to buy their cd. The opening acts and Taylor Swift all sang together for, "I'm only me when I'm with you" ... it was a good touch. And for "Should've said no" ... unbelievable. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who can get tickets to go see... heck, I'd love to go again tomorrow!

Taylor Swift - Sparkling Performance in Calgary

by CalgaryFan on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Last night I went to the Taylor Swift concert with two of my friends. During the concert Taylor Swift did not refer to any of us as "fans" the entire audience was referred to as her "friends". When Taylor said this all I heard was screams at the fact that she could be so genuine as to see us has friends. Between songs Taylor would talk, she was telling everything she has experienced and why she wrote a certain song for example "Teardrops on my guitar", she was sarcastic, hilarious and all around an amazlingly nice person! At one point a song got a little screwy but she kept going like nothing had happened.... which I could never do! Halfway through the song she walked down the aisle in which she had been preforming and started to hug and take pictures with fans. How many singers would do that in the middle of the concert? After singing Tim MaGraw, the crowd cheered for a solid 5 minuets, when we finally stopped she simply went to the mic and said "Calgary..... I will never forget that!" To hear that it actually brought some tears to some eyes (including mine), because knowing that she could remeber a city like us is so cool! Even though most of Taylor Swifts' songs are about heartbreaks and hard times in school she relates to even some 13 year olds just like me. Every girl will go through a heartbreak, want there fairytale fantasy and burn there ex-boyfriends pictures just like Taylor, and that is how she can relate to so many teenage girls. This was the first time I have ever seen Taylor Swift in concert, she was amazing, my perfect role modle, and I will never ever ever forget this experiance! Thank-you Taylor for being such an amazing person for teens and tweens to look up too! <3

    Taylor Swift was excellent

by ImpressedMom on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Taylor Swift put on a wonderful, entertaining show. She is a great performer. It was a special touch when she performed at the back of the Saddledome which allowed people with less than perfect seats to get up and personal with her. It was especially touching when she went into the crowd and hugged her fans. An extremely talented 19 year old!
