    Spectrum Road

by AlexT on 2012-07-02Sound Academy - Toronto

Thunderous Apocalyptic Reminded me of the best of early 70s - Colosseum, Mahavishnu, King Crimson (21st century schizoid man) Four virtuosos but the energy was even larger that the sum of the parts Cindy Blackman-Santana - every beat is a hit for Baker or Cobham Although it was a tribute band for Tony Williams and his Lieftime it ended up as well deserved tribute for Jack Bruce!

KC Roberts and the Live Revolution CrazY Great!

by Puccini on 2012-07-02Sound Academy - Toronto

KCLR amazing, tight, musically moved everyone there. The room was rocking with his magical combo of jazz, funk, blues and soul. He has everything going for him. Great songs, solos, and they were his invention! wow! Why isn't he signed? Why aren't they playing New York and LA? Spectrum Road...... not so much. It's time for the New live Revolution!!!!

    Cray Never Disappoints

by Bonehead1971 on 2011-07-10Festival Mainstage Marquee at Metro Square - Toronto

This was my seventh time seeing Mr. Cray and crew and it was extra special as I was taking my mother to her first show of his. As always his voice was otherworldly and the band was tight as hell. Thanks Bob for a wonderful night that my mother and I will always remember and I look forward to number eight.

    Bootsy Collins

by Anonymous on 2011-07-06Festival Mainstage Marquee at Metro Square - Toronto

All show and no go! I was not expecting to have to stand (or sit at the stage side behind hundreds of people). The previous concerts AWB & Robert Cray, we had wonderful seats. After having to listen to a Charity pitch and then a tape of how wonderful Bootsy is, he finally showed .. late at best. Played a few songs ... walked off and left us to his band which was way too big for the size of the stage. Disappointing!

    Good entertainment

by JYR2011 on 2011-07-05Festival Mainstage Marquee at Metro Square - Toronto

The main artist Nikki has tremendous potential; I recommend buying both of her albums and keeping an eye for what she will do next; Her signing is extremely mature for her age and at no point we could imagine that she is that young.

Bootsie brought back all the fond memories from back in the day. His incredibly tight band and soulful singers rounded the evening and gave him much needed breaks. When on stage, Bootsie gave his 100%. Everyone on stage looked as if that's the only place they wanted to be and thoroughly engaged the audience. Bootsie joked, played, sang and wore the sparkle-plenty outfits we all remember. When Bootsie jumped off the stage to shake hands and hug his fans, it was as if we were transformed back to a simpler, more trusting time. Great music, great entertainer, great concert.

    the best concert ever

by charlie1727 on 2011-07-04Festival Mainstage Marquee at Metro Square - Toronto

i am a big time concert goer, particularly funky stuff, eg. Prince, Maceo, Fred Wesley, Chaka, George Clinton....but just a minute.....B O O T S Y was a notch above all o'them. B O O T S Y was such a treat ....it felt like I was at the meditation retreat, you know, when you come out totally different person. Positive energy, honest playing time (2 1/2 hours). All together he funked out!!!

    Bootsy's got the Funk

by Sprockett on 2011-07-04Festival Mainstage Marquee at Metro Square - Toronto

Fun show with horn section, back-up singers and the glitz. Lots of people dancing and at one point Bootsy came off the stage and danced thru the crowd. The crowd spanned 20 year olds to 60 year olds but that didn't matter as long as you got the Funk message from Dr. Funkenstein (George Clinton) and the beats from the beat master (James Brown). Bootsy played with both of them and hasn't yet hopped off the hip. A hot summer nite and Metro Square and the City of Toronto have outlawed the sale of bottled water but you can still get bottled Coke so as soon as you went down the street and got your water you were set for a good time.

Excellent performance, only too short. That's the only reason I did not give them 5 stars.

    Los Lobos/Los Lonely Boys

by Licky on 2011-07-02Festival Mainstage Marquee at Metro Square - Toronto

Los Lobos was good but Los Lonely Boys were absolutely amazing. I would see them again for sure. They are a really tight band. Fabulous guitar playing. It's a rock-on party seeing them play. The whole crowd was up and really getting into them. High energy. They remind me of Stevie Ray Vaughn/ZZ Top/Santana.

by Haudenosaunee on 2011-07-01Festival Mainstage Marquee at Metro Square - Toronto

The concert was so very great. We were third row from the stage and the crowd was rocking until midnight. I spoke to David and Ceasar from Los Lobos at the autograph session .. great guys. I hope they came this way again soon.

    Distant and unemotional

by DGand on 2011-07-01Glenn Gould Studio - Toronto

There was too much pro forma playing. The artist seemed distant. There were altogether too many flourishes for their own sake. He seems set in his ways. I was only moved once, during the Ellington/Strayhorn medley: the "Flower is a Lovesome Thing" section. There seemed far too much rushing through things. The whole performance seemed perfunctory. The guy next to me checked his watch twice and I checked the clock three times. The guy who checked his watch gave the artist a standing ovation. Figures. The sound at the Glenn Gould theater was tinny and tiny. To be fair, the Monk pieces were the best of the evening: easily. The song in homage to Abdullah Ibrahim was poor. He got part of it right: the "cathedral" sound. But he missed the striking part of Ibrahim. The striking is what makes the vault of heaven. I've seen Abdullah play - the overtones are a choir. There were no overtones here at all, very little in terms of dynamics. He's old... I don't mean to jump on the guy. He deserves laurels for his efforts: I just wish he wouldn't rest on them.

Quality blues from Mr. Cray and company.

by Rodent on 2011-07-01Festival Mainstage Marquee at Metro Square - Toronto

The space between the notes tells me the band was tight and Mr. Cray was playing well. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.
