The Band's Visit on Tour

Winner of Best Musical and nine other Tony awards, The Band's Visit visits you as it continues a North American tour that began in June 2019. Based on the Israeli film of the same name, this critically acclaimed musical about what happens when a traveling troupe of Egyptian musicians accidentally spends a single night in a small Israeli desert town features music and lyrics by David Yazbek.

Award-winning Israeli film actor Sasson Gabay, who originated the role in the film, once again plays the musicians' leader in a production The New York Times' Ben Brantley called, "One of the most ravishing musicals you may ever be seduced by." Chilina Kennedy, who starred in more than a thousand Broadway performances of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, plays Dina, the captivating café owner who welcomes him to tiny Bet Hatikva.

About The Band's Visit

"Once not long ago, a group of musicians came to Israel from Egypt. You probably didn't hear about it. It wasn't very important." So begins The Band's Visit, which transcends its cinematic origins with beautiful music. Broadway balladry acquires a Middle Eastern tinge that emerges fully during some glorious instrumental performances. Set somewhere "basically bleak and beige and blah blah blah," as one song puts it, the lonely characters in this simmering scenario experience the magic of happenstance. Designer Scott Pask's set consists of two rotating circles, lending the impression that the audience itself is drifting through the village of Bet Hatikva in 1996.

Following an acclaimed Off-Broadway run, The Band's Visit opened in Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre in 2017. David Yazbek, the accomplished composer-lyricist of The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Tootsie, outdid himself in this production, which won 10 Tony awards, including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical and Best Direction of a Musical. The Band's Visit original cast recording went on to win a Grammy award for Best Musical Theater Album.

See it for yourself and learn why, as one character puts it, "Nothing is as beautiful as something you don't expect."
