About

The Dead South have never been about constant reinvention, but about full commitment to their own singular way. With confidence in their sound and style and trust in each other, The Dead South arrive at the cusp of explosive global success in an enviable, and well-earned, position: total autonomy. It doesn't really matter what you call their music - progressive bluegrass, alternative Americana, country, folk and western, what matters is that this is theirs, and people from all different backgrounds, beliefs, experiences, languages and ages love it.

True blue right through, The Dead South don't shy away from ruffling traditionalists' feathers from time to time, as they flawlessly execute banjo rolls and lightning-fast mandolin tremolos, 3-part harmonies and songs of classic themes -murder ballads, disloyalty, ghosts and the like, all with a wink and a smile. As they continue their climb to the top, The Dead South have learned an important lesson: If you're going to be outsiders, you'd better be great.

Confirmed by the passion of their Dead South cosplaying fans, who go to concerts in the band's signature look, this four-piece acoustic set from the middle of the Canadian prairies have found their people. Good Company, as they call themselves, is a global community of vastly dissimilar folks who might not see eye to eye, but who stand shoulder to shoulder at the gigs.

    Great Time

by Hellon Wheels on 2023-01-12Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The Dead South provided a great evening, engaging the whole crowd with their rockin' stompin' sometimes gritty version of bluegrass/folk music. First time in their audience and loved it.

Great show, nice venue, lights were annoying.

by Bryce on 2023-01-12Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

No complaints about the band, the tickets, or the seats. The lights from the light show did shine in our eyes for about half the concert and that really sucked. Maybe it's because we were in the upper balcony. Either way, you would think they would foresee that issue when testing the light show.

    Great Show

by HackerGuy on 2023-01-12Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I love Dead South. I didn’t make it 5 star because of the lighting. For some reason the had the spotlights pointed out to the crowd and for half the show we were staring into a the light. Very annoying.

Could listen to the fellas all night long!!

by Shane on 2023-01-12Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Absolutely fantastic show! My only complaint is the show wasn't long enough! The guys only played for about an hour and 20, figured it would be a little closer to 1h40-2h! I might be a bit biased, they are my favourite band, I could listen to them all night.

Incredible time at the Dead South!

by Shaun T on 2023-01-12Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

This show was INCREDIBLE. I love the Dead South, so I was already walking in knowing it was going to be good. But they blew every expectation out of the water! Between the lights, the stage performance, and how excellent their live songs were, it was easily one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to!

    This group is fantastic!

by Sharon on 2023-01-12Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The Dead South is awesome! There is nothing disappointing about this band. This was my first concert seeing them. There was no disappointments only great satisfaction, great songs with great music and awesome introductions to the band. Next time they come to Calgary I would not miss them!! Love the type of music I sang the last song all the way home.

    Should Not Allow Drinking

by Moon on 2023-01-12Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The Dead South were great. Hate the policy of allowing drinks in the auditorium, as there was a constant parade of people up and down the aisles going to get drinks or returning with drinks, and having to stand and move to let people in and out of seats as a result. I also get really annoyed at people who stand during the performance, cutting off the view of those behind them.

    Dead South - live

by Alias on 2023-01-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Dead South put on a polished show that flowed smooth from start to finish. Sound was great. Very difficult to get a cocktail.

    Great concert

by Tom on 2023-01-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The dead south put on a great show, full of energy and excellent sound. Fantastic show men, talented and great wonderful crowd interaction. The venue was good although there was a blaring light shining directly in our eyes for a third of the concert making it hard to see much of anything.

    The Dead South

by J. J. on 2023-01-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I enjoy the band's music and energy. I did NOT enjoy their light show for the concert. We sat in the main right section and the square bright white strobe light hit us right in the eyes each time they used it. I spent most of the concert with my eyes closed and my hand in front of my face. We came to SEE the band and listen to them and this was an extremely unpleasant experience. The stage seemed too small for all the lights that the band used. This is the second disappointing concert at this venue - the incredibly loud bass at Styx was the first. Both concerts ended up being a disappointment.

    Energetic concert

by C on 2023-01-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Band members had tons of energy. Playing a cello strapped to you must be tiring. Also mandolins and banjos at frenetic speeds are enjoyable.

    The Dead South

by D. on 2023-01-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Great Concert! Great musicians! Even though two extra songs were played not long enough! Lol My complaint would be the poor lighting! I’ve been to many concerts and have never had Lights directed at me for extended periods of time. There were so many times that you could not watch the musicians because the light was so bright and shining directly in our eyes! Poor lighting is the only reason for 4 stars.

Light show is a poor choice

by Kristen on 2023-01-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Show was good but light show was directed out to the audience and ruined the show for those who were in the direct line of it

    Amazing

by Jason on 2023-01-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

These guys put on an excellent show. They brought lots of energy to the stage. For the instruments they play, they blew the roof off the Jubilee Auditorium.
