About

The Dead South have never been about constant reinvention, but about full commitment to their own singular way. With confidence in their sound and style and trust in each other, The Dead South arrive at the cusp of explosive global success in an enviable, and well-earned, position: total autonomy. It doesn't really matter what you call their music - progressive bluegrass, alternative Americana, country, folk and western, what matters is that this is theirs, and people from all different backgrounds, beliefs, experiences, languages and ages love it.

True blue right through, The Dead South don't shy away from ruffling traditionalists' feathers from time to time, as they flawlessly execute banjo rolls and lightning-fast mandolin tremolos, 3-part harmonies and songs of classic themes -murder ballads, disloyalty, ghosts and the like, all with a wink and a smile. As they continue their climb to the top, The Dead South have learned an important lesson: If you're going to be outsiders, you'd better be great.

Confirmed by the passion of their Dead South cosplaying fans, who go to concerts in the band's signature look, this four-piece acoustic set from the middle of the Canadian prairies have found their people. Good Company, as they call themselves, is a global community of vastly dissimilar folks who might not see eye to eye, but who stand shoulder to shoulder at the gigs.

    four stars out of five

Headliners were amazing. Great performances. Thank you so much. Cannot say for the rest of the venue, but the sound at the balcony had quite a bit of room for improvement. Hard to say if it was hardware problems or not. Maybe the sound below was great, but upstairs, it was not clear, and sometimes quite a bit fuzzy. That was unfortunate. First parts: Danny Oliver was great. Very talented. Devarrow however seemed more appropriate as a first part for a Nirvana concert.

    Excellent Show

by Gerry on 2019-11-04MTELUS - Montreal

I left Moncton NB with my wife, drove to Mtl specifically to watch this concert. Dead South did not short change us. They were fantastic!!! They were “tight” and had their finger on the pulse with the crowd. Their music is superbe! It was a full crowd and you could tell everybody wanted more. Both lead up group of musicians also did a great job. We enjoyed their music as well. Gerry Belliveau

    Great

    by K. on 2019-11-04MTELUS - Montreal

Had seen them in ottawa last year and it was really smaller since it was in a community center. The light show was awesome. The only downside was that the show technically started at 8 but it there was 2 first parts but 15 minutes in between each act so they did go on stage until 10 which was horrible since the doors opened at 7 and we had no chairs so by the time the main act started we were already fed up of standing up

    Awesome showmanship!

by Veal on 2019-10-29Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

We first saw these guys perform in a small bar in downtown Winnipeg, about 5 years ago. They have come a long way since then, have grown as a band, and best of all have stayed true to their music.

Wonderful concert! Dead South played the songs I wanted to hear and more! You have a hard time sitting still to the Great Bluegrass tunes! I am more interested in the band than ever now!

    Damn good show

by T. Geisel on 2019-10-29Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Danny Olliver: great singer and a damn fine guitar player. The Legendary Shak Shakers: a very energetic show led by a very animated singer. The Dead South: impeccable timing and an amazing show. All in all, a perfect evening.

    Finger pickin good time

    by B. G. on 2019-10-29Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

From the warm up act (Danny Oliver) who's acoustic guitar and stage presence was amazing, then on to the shack shakers energetic set, got everyone revved up for the main attraction Dead South, their harmony was perfect and stage setup made it for a great evening, only drawback was being seated in the first balcony, the sound was not the greatest, and even though it was a cooler evening in Winnipeg, it was very warm up there where we sat, I couldn't imagine seeing a concert and sitting up there in the summer. All in all acts were great, the venue due to the seating - a bit of a miss.

    Date Night

by AliKat on 2019-10-29Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

My boyfriend was visiting from Charlotte, North Carolina and Dead South is one of his current fave bands. It was nice to treat him while he was here visiting Winnipeg and meeting my family for the first time and he throughly loved the concert and the venue, which was Burton Cummings Theatre. I was pleasantly surprised how much o also enjoyed the concert with first Danny Olliver (beautiful solo artist on acoustic guitar) The Legendary Shack Shakers (amazingly entertaining band from Kentucky) and of course the Dead South who put on an awesome show and the whole event made for a magical evening.

    Amazing Group!!!

by Spud on 2019-10-23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

These guys killed it on stage. The commodore ballroom was a great venue for them to play. Seeing them right up close was awesome and definitely the best way to fully enjoy these guys. I highly recommend people get tickets if they come back.

    Lots of fun!

by spinds on 2019-10-23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Such great music to hear live - gets your foot stomping and your hands clapping. Just so lively and fun! Would have maybe loved a bit more banter between songs to show a bit of the band's personality, but still great fun. Played a nice mix of songs from the older album and the newer ones. I'll definitely check them out again. And the opener Danny Olliver was fantastic!

    Wonderful and unique

by Renee on 2019-10-23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Amazing, talented, unique band . Love their voices, the harmony, stage presence. So glad I could finally see them live. I found two opening acts plus two intermissions too long of a wait before The Dead South came on stage but definitely worth the wait.

One of the best music experiences....

    by THORN604 on 2019-10-23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

From the opening act of Danny Olliver, to Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, and then finally The Dead South..... this was by far, one of the best concerts my wife and I have been to. What made it even better, was the crowd. Such a diverse group, and everyone was awesome! Right after the show Danny came out and we got to take a picture with him, and chatted for a quick minute. Then ran into Danny Olliver - amazing guy. Will definitely keep an eye out for this guy to come to town again!. Chatted with J.D Wilkes outside for a bit - great guy and fun to talk to. Ran into Nate out back and as he seemed like he was chilling with some friends, didn't chat, just thanked him for an awesome show, and moved on... Again, best show I've been to, and will DEFINITELY see them again if they come back to town (to the Commodore ;) - I don't do stadiums anymore!)

    great new Canadian act

by Jerry on 2019-10-22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

My second show love the energy. They need a few more hits set is a little short . Re think the back ups they were very weak and shouldn’t be the same type of act. All in all very impressed

    Perfection

by Terrible Ted on 2019-10-22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

If you missed these guys in this venue then you really missed a great show, the singer was just wondering around in the crowd before the show even started, meeting fans and taking photos, he was a really laid back guy, they hit the stage and the place went wild, blasted through about 15 songs and the crowd sang along or danced or lost their minds. These guys are the REAL DEAL and if you get a chance to catch them LIVE then you better do it, lack of radio play may keep them in smaller venues so tickets to shows will always go quick, I was there, it rocked and I got the SETLIST YEE HAW & HOWDY MAAM

stark difference between opener and headliner

    by J. F. on 2019-10-22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

The Dead South were very popular with the crowd and sold out two consecutive nights. Lots of sing alongs and the band seemed to have fun on stage. However, with their costumes, choreography and light show the Dead South are risking becoming a bluegrass boy band. Especially when compared to the opener, The Legendary Shack Shakers. Colonel JD Wilkes and his band entertained with an authentic performance that seemed to take the crowd a bit by surprise. As their set went along the crowd started to get into it even though there was no fancy lights or dance moves. JD won them over with his harp and banjo playing and his irrepressible southern character. The best musician on stage the whole night was Gary Seperko who showed off his speed licks on both acoustic and electric guitar as the Colonel sung about vampire cults and swamp people. The crowd got full value from the Dead South show but they were also exposed to the real thing by seeing the Legendary Shack Shakers.

by grampacandy on 2018-10-07Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

As a 63 year old lifelong concert goer I am always looking at new music acts . This group and there show was outstanding. More than just a tight band they are an act . Distinctive and edgy my group couldn’t stop dancing. Keep it up guys can’t wait to see you again
