    The Fab Four was great

by Bizr1 on 2018-06-05Casino Rama Resort - Rama

The Fab Four show at Casino Rama was excellent. This is the second year I have seen them. The band is super talented and the MC ( Ed Sullivan) is very funny. Only issue is the concert was very short only 1 hour 45 minutes. The real Paul McCartney plays for 3 hours! Another 15 minutes would have been great. I will go again, it's just fun!

Fab Four treat Winnipeg to a taste of Beatlemania

by tarryrob on 2013-12-14McPhillips Street Station - Winnipeg, MB

The Fab Four made a triumphant return to Winnipeg by popular demand on Dec. 12 for the first of a two-night stand at McPhillips Street Station. The casino once again booked the California-based Beatles tribute band in conjunction with the start of the holiday season, a time fondly remember by fans when The Beatles often released studio albums and issued Christmas greetings. The Fab Four set list varied only slightly from last visit, but this is understandable in that the multi-media production bears a closer resemblance to a Broadway production than a rock concert. The Fabs' show is a multi-media production, which employs video screens, period film footage capturing the spirit and historical context, vintage 60s instruments, costuming, live cameras along with state of the art sound to provide the audience with a taste of the magic that was Beatlemania. The show was opened by “Pulp Fiction” comedian Jerome Patrick Hoban, who impersonates the late TV host Ed Sullivan. "Mr. Ed" recreated the famous introduction from the Liverpuddlians' Feb. 9, 1964 TV debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show," inserting a few fresh gags into the intro and throughout his intermittent appearances during the show in his ongoing role as comic relief. The stage faithfully recreates The Beatles early live performances with the band employingVox amps, Ludwig drums, a Hoffner bass, as well as a Gretsch, Gibson SG and Rickenbacker guitars. Attired in the The Beatles famous Pierre Cardin suits and Cuban heel boots, and with the help of arguably the most beloved back catalogue of hits on the planet, The Fabs faithfully performed one early Beatle hit after another, opening with “I Want to Hold Your Hand." Castmembers Ron McNeil (“John”), Ardy Sarraf (“Paul”), Erik Fidel ("Ringo") and Gavin Pring ("George") proceed to faithfull recreate hits including: "Please, Please Me," ,“All My Loving,” "Do You Want to Know a Secret," “A Hard Days Night,” “I Should Have Known Better,” “Eight Days a Week,” “Help,” “She Loves You, “I Saw Her Standing Their," "Twist and Shout." The cast interact readily with the audience throughout the show while remaining in character, but maintain a "nudge nudge - wink wink" spirit. characterized by humorous one-liners such as McNeil's, "We're glad you love the songs, otherwise we might have found ourselves having to impersonate The Monkees." The show is loosely broken into four acts: The Beatles' Ed Sullivan show appearance, "Help"/Shea Stadium era, Sgt. Pepper era and "Let It Be" era with "Mr. Ed" entertaining the audience while the cast execute costume changes for each set. Show highlights include Sarraf's Shea Stadium era Beatle "Paul," performing MCartney’s blockbuster ballad “Yesterday," sounding eerily like Sir Paul and playing bass and acoustic guitar left-handed a la Macca, as well as McNeil's touching rendition of Lennon's "Imagine," the only non-Beatles song played in full during the night, performed in honour of the recent anniversary of Lennon's tragic assassination on Dec. 8, 1980. Although most of the majority vocals were handled by the band's closest Beatles look and sound alikes, McNeil (“John”) and Sarraf (“Paul”), drummer Fidel "Ringo" and real-life Liverpuddlian, guitarist Pring "George," both acquitted themselves well on their lead vocal turns, Fidel on "A Little Help from My Friends," and Pring on "Do You Want to Know a Secret" and "Here Comes the Sun." The Fab Four wound up the night with the 1970 "Let It Be" Lennon-McCartney hit "Get Back” and, following a well deserved standing ovation, capped the night with The Beatles all-time biggest hit, "Hey Jude."

Fab Four a ticket to re-ride Beatlemania

by tarryrob on 2012-12-10McPhillips Street Station - Winnipeg, MB

The Fab Four: The Ultimate Tribute made its first visit to Winnipeg last night (12/9/12), playing to a capacity crowd at McPhillips Street Station Casino. Playing the first of two-night stand, probably not coincidentally timed one day after the 32nd anniversary of John Lennon’s death, the multi-media production celebrates the music and legacy of The Beatles and provides a taste of the magic that was Beatlemania. Fun quizzes and facts about the legendary Liverpuddlians flashed on the large video screens to tantalize the minds of Beatles’ aficionados, prior to “Ed Sullivan,” impersonated by “Pulp Fiction” castmember Jerome Patrick Hoban, entering to recreate the introduction from the “Help” hitmakers’ Feb. 9, 1964 TV debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Led by Fab Four found Ron McNeil (playing “John”), the cast launched into a string of early sixties era Beatle hits: including who launches into a string of early Beatles hits, including: “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “All My Loving,” “A Hard Days Night,” “I Should Have Known Better,” “Eight Days a Week,” “She Loves You, “ Can’t Buy Me Love, “Help,” as well as “Twist and Shout.” Great care and attention has been made in recreating the song performances note-for-note, as well as in stage appearance and sound. The band wears the familiar “fab gear” (Pierre Cardin suits, Cuban heel boots), playing vintage 60s era equipment, including Ludwig drums, Hoffner bass, as well as Gretsch and Rickenbacker guitars. Unlike other Beatle tribute bands, The Fab Four do not employ a “fifth Beatle” to provide added percussion, piano, synth-string and horn arrangements. Instead, all vocal and instrumental parts are recreated exclusively be the four multi-talented cast members themselves. Individually, the degree to which each cast member looked and sounded like the originals tended to vary from song to song, and from era to era as moustaches and beards were added with McNeil’s “John” and Ardy Sarraf’s “Paul” bearing the greatest physical and vocal resemblance to their characters. During and between songs, vintage era film footage helps recreate the emotional and historical mood of the 60s. Hoban’s “Ed Sullivan” character made intermittent appearances through the night, adding comic relief and allowing the cast time to make necessary costume and instrument changes. Performing a quick costume change, Sarraf took the stage solo, dressed in Shea Stadium era Beatle costuming to perform McCartney’s blockbuster ballad “Yesterday.” To his credit, Sarraf plays both bass and acoustic guitar left-handed a la McCartney, and sounds eerily like Macca in the majority of his numbers. He also handles the majority of the fronting, using a serviceable enough Liverpuddlian accent. A small quibble would be that the bandmembers spent a great deal of time evoking audience participation, which tended to detract from - rather than enhance - the illusion of a live Beatle show. “Ringo” (played by Erik Fidel) and “George” (played a real-life Liverpuddlian Gavin Pring) returned to back Sarraf on “Got to Get You into My Life.” Hoban’s “Sullivan” once again reappeared, allowing the cast to change into “ Pepper” era costuming and return to perform “Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (intro), “With a Little Help From My Friends,” (featuring a decent vocal turn by drummer Fidel), “Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)” and “A Day in the Life.” A final costume change, recreating The Beatles famous 1969 "Abbey Road" album cover garb, preceded the homestretch, which included Pring’s only vocal turn on Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun” while McNeil rocked out on Lennon's “Revolution.” McNeil took a moment to speak of John Lennon’s passing and his primary message of peace and love, before performing a fine cover of Lennon’s solo masterpiece “Imagine,” the only non-Beatles song performed during the night. They finished with the set with the rollicking “Let It Be” hit “Get Back” and, earning a well deserved standing ovation, returned to cap the night with The Beatles 7 ½ minute opus “Hey Jude.” The Fab Four performs once again tonight at McPhillips Street Station.
