About

Marcus King faces heartache, addiction, and mental health head-on in his music. Pain quakes below the vibrato of his voice, and his delivery weighs heavy with booze-drenched regrets and mistakes in lonely hotels. The GRAMMY® nominated fourth generation musician from Greenville, SC, started playing guitar at 8-years-old following in the footsteps of his guitarist Father and Grandpa. Logging thousands of miles on the road as "The Marcus King Band," he established himself with unparalleled performance prowess. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach and cut his solo debut El Dorado, garnering a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Americana Album." Between headlining venues, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more. He has launched various mental health initiatives, including a guitar auction collaboration with MusiCares. Now, his 2024 album Mood Swings feels like the moment of baptism when water washes away a life's worth of sins and degradation and all that's left is a revived, yet still real-as-hell primal scream. It's as if King strained raw soul straight from his gut up through that broken heart and on to the record under the watchful eye of Rick Rubin. Emphasizing his vocals front-and-center more than ever before, the trusty guitar he's so often associated with plays the sideman this time around (though there's no shortage of impressive shredding). For as dark as everything seemed, you can't help but feel a sense of hope in the power of Marcus's voice.

    Incredible!

One of the best concerts I've ever been to. This kid is one in a billion. The best voice I've ever heard of the 300+ concerts I been to in my life. Hoping he gets the full recognition he deserves.

    The Real Deal

    by P. J. on 2022-09-23History - Toronto

The voice and guitar chops that this kid has is way beyond his age. He's only in his 20s! And his horn players... they played multiple horns (trumpet, trombone, sax), flute, percussion and sang back up! Crazy talent

    Marcus King

by paparues on 2022-09-23History - Toronto

What an amazing show! I've see him a half dozen times or so in his young career and this may have been the best. For almost 2 hours, the energy he and the band brought to the stage was off the charts! And the venue, History, what an excellent place to see a show. The acoustics were fantastic and the site lines are tremendous. Be back there again for sure!

MKB was fantastic. Our second time seeing him live and love it. Neil Frances was also good, sadly only caught his last two songs.

Wish I saw Marcus at a different venue

    by E on 2022-09-23History - Toronto

I left after Marcus played 3 songs... by no fault of his. It was my first time buying standing tickets, which I will never do again. By the time Marcus was on stage, after the (3) too many opening acts, I was pushed so far back that I was standing with a pole in front of me and could see everyone EXCEPT Marcus - the one I came to see. Not only that, but the sound wasn't great. The drums were too loud and the rest of the band, including Marcus' voice and guitar just sounded muffled to my ear. I had been to History to see Shakey Graves earlier this year and the sound was great... Whoever the sound guy was for this show didn't do a good job in my opinion. It's a shame because I was looking forward to watch Marcus play live . Hopefully he comes back to Toronto and plays a different venue so I can have my chance to enjoy his music!
