About
THE PAPERBOYS IN CONCERT:
Canadian folk favorites The Paperboys have been entertaining audiences with their eclectic yet infectiously poppy tunes for more than two decades. The group’s genre-defying sound combines an exotic array of influences – Celtic, African, zydeco, country, soul – and their live shows are just as diverse, delighting fans with everything from rollicking instrumental jams to radio-friendly pop gems. Founding member and frontman Tom Landa is joined on tour by a revolving lineup of players who expertly provide everything from rock staples like guitar and drums to traditional instruments like banjo and fiddle. Whether they’re tearing through their bluegrass-inspired cover of The Beatles’ “I’ve Just Seen a Face” or getting boots stomping with “After the First Time”, The Paperboys always make ticket buyers feel good with an unforgettable night of world music-inspired pop and rock.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The Paperboys were formed in Vancouver in 1991 by singer-songwriter Tom Landa. The group issued a cassette release and quickly rose to popularity in the Vancouver college scene, and in 1994 they made their album debut with Late as Usual. The record was a critical success, earning a Juno Award nomination for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year. They followed up in 1997 with Molinos, another critical boon that earned the same Juno nomination – this time winning the award. A string of popular albums followed in the ‘00s including Postcards (2000), The Road to Ellenside (2006), and Callithump (2009). Though the band’s lineup has evolved over the years, Landa has remained a constant, and his singular songwriting sense has ensured that the band’s sound has remained cohesive. With their 2014 album At Peace With One’s Ghosts still fresh in fans’ minds, The Paperboys are sure to impress as they continue to treat fans to their eclectic sounds on tour.
