    Not "One of favourite things"

by DrRick on 2013-12-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Unfortunately, I was not very impressed with this production if the Sound Of Music. It paled in comparison to the off-broadway version in Toronto. First what I liked: the actress who played Maria was a talented actress and singer. She was believable in the part. I also liked the performances of Max and the Baroness. The actor who played Captain Von Trapp came across like a lounge lizard. But the greatest disappointment were some of the actors who played the Von Trapp children. Most notably, Kurt was played by a 20-yr-old plus actor with a clear 5-o'clock shadow and a beer gut. He was so goofy. What were the casting people thinking???? Two of the girls and grettel played the roles straight and well! I think this production was doomed by very poor casting choices. Better luck next time

The Sound of Music has always been one of my favourite movies, so this production had big shoes to fill, and fill it did! It was a lovely musical and the voices were all superb! Well done!

This production of The Sound Of Music captures all the emotions, humour and musical sing-along quality that we all remember from the movie. Highly recommended!

Sound of Music certain to delight

by 1murphy on 2013-12-17National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This production was so refreshing. The actors had the audience in the palm of their hands from the beginning. There were some comedic moments. The staging was minimalist, which allowed the songs to shine. The three musicians were spot on. The guests that I had with me both remarked that this production was so much better than the live version which recently broadcast on NBC.

Fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed the performance . Maria was terrific. Loved her voice and her facial expressions. The children were very good too and especially enjoyed Gretal.

    We got to sing along!

by Shepody on 2013-12-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I loved the fact that the cast used the whole theatre as their stage. We were up close and personal. Signing was very good, props were perfect.

    Sound of music opening night

by Mlrnjrawr on 2013-12-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I have seen the S of M, several times live in various cities. This was one of the best performances that I have seen in the last several years. All major roles were done well, captain, Maria, Max etc. Kurt was hilarious, but I was not a fan of casting a girl as Rolf. Overall, a great job, encouraging audience to sign was great, enjoyed the show.

The Sound of Music was more than I expected!

by mystelle on 2013-12-09National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I grew up watching The Sound of Music, and I have learned that shows rarely meet your expectations when the story is something close to your heart. The Sound of Music blew me away, the performers were extraordinary, and the interaction with the audience made me feel like I was part of the show. I got chills from the first song on, laughed and teared up and enjoyed the whole thing tremendously. If you are a fan of the story then this musical is a must-see!

Enjoyed The production. The actress who played Mother Superior has an exceptional voice! The harmonizing of the sisters was beautiful. The children were very entertaining. All in all a good show . Found the blocking a little uncomfortable at time. I kept fighting the urge to go an rearrange it. lol,

A very ambitious project went off very well. There was passion and dedication in the ensemble, and it was enjoyed by all.
